Built to “meet the needs and demands of today’s video creators,” according to Sony, the ZV-1 puts video front and center in its design.
This new pocket-sized digital camera is small but packed with some punch. It’s capable of recording HDR, 4K video while using in-body image stabilization. Plus, Sony claims it’s easy to use, allowing all skill levels of creators and vloggers to use the ZV-1. Sony says that they’ve designed the camera “from the ground up for content creators and vloggers” taking “direct feedback” from their community. Let’s dive in to see what they’ve come up with with this video-focused, compact camera.
Video specs
The ZV-1 features a 1.0-type stacked Exmor RS CMOS image sensor with DRAM chip. As for its lens, it’s a 24-70mm F1.8-2.8 ZEISS Vario-Sonnar T large-aperture lens This lens’ specialty lies in bokeh. According to Sony, its lens allows the ZV-1 to capture “beautiful background bokeh” and allow “the subject to stand out from the background.” Additionally, there’s an autofocus tracking system integrated into the ZV-1.
Also included in the build is the latest-generation BIONZ X image processor with front-end LSI. Sony says the processor will deliver “high resolution as well as low noise.” The ZV-1 is the first-ever compact Sony camera with a side-opening Vari-angle LCD screen. This should make it easier to compose shots while vlogging in front of the camera.
As we mentioned earlier, the camera is capable of shooting 4K video, but is also capable of time-lapse and Super Slow Motion recording at up to 960 fps. It also sports a 3.5mm microphone input. Real-time Eye AF and Real-time Tracking autofocus are also included.
ZV-1 as a content creating, vlogging camera
Designed to be easy to use and compact, Sony claims the camera allows “creators to simplify their setup.” You can operate the camera with just one hand. In fact, Sony encourages one hand use with a comfortable grip and a large movie REC button at the top of the camera. There’s also a recording lamp on the front of the camera, letting you know if the camera is recording.
Live streaming
Not only can you record 4K, HDR video on the ZV-1, you can also live stream video as well. You can connect the ZV-1 into a PC, making it into a webcam. This “allows content creators to interact with their followers in real-time while also utilizing the advanced imaging technology and unique features of the ZV-1,” says Sony. The PC software will be available in July 2020.
Pricing and availability
The ZV-1 will be available in June 2020 for the introductory price of $749. However, after June 28th, the pricing will increase to $799. So if you were wanting to buy the camera, it’s best to do it right when it comes out so you can save a little on the cost.
