Sony has introduced three new additions to its latest Atom X compatible SSDmini drives. They range from 500GB up to 2TB and work with the Atomos Ninja V.
Like the Angelbird SSDs, the three new Atom X SSDmini drives are offered in capacities of 500GB and 1TB. However, there is a third option that features 2TBof storage. The three drives otherwise share the same specs. They have up to 550MB/s read speed and up to 500MB/s write speed. They all measure out to be 80.0 x 75.5 x 7.8mm and weigh 88g.
Sony says the new drives are capable of processing up to 10-bit ProRes raw HQ at 4K 50/6-p or ProRes HQ / DNxHR at 4Kp60 / 2K 240p.
Small size, yet still powerful
Using SSDs to capture your footage increases the speed of your workflow. Once you’re finished recording, you just have to remove the SSD and insert it into your workstation. The new Atom X SSDmini drives look to easily fit with the Ninja V monitor, yet there won’t be any loss of capacity or speed. This is great because the Ninja V is a smaller device.
However, if you use them with a larger device, like an Atomos Sumo 19 monitor, you will need Atomos’ SSDmini Adaptor.
Pricing and availability
The 500GB SSD version of the drive costs $199. The 1TB SSD is priced at $379 and the 2TB SSD is priced at $759.
