According to a recent report, Sony is reportedly readying to announce a new full-frame mirrorless camera. It will be an entry-level camera that will be both small and affordable.
“I am 99,9999999% sure that in mid September we will get a new Sony Full Frame E-mount camera. The only reason I am not 100% sure is because Covid-19 may mess the timeframe again if things get worse,” says sonyalpharumors.
sonyalpharumors says the camera will not be in the a7 or a9 lines. Rather, it will likely be the first model in a completely new brand line. It could potentially take on names like: a5 and a6. This is based on the new discovered registration by Sony Taiwan. Initial reports claim the camera will use Sony’s NP-FZ100 lithium-ion battery, sport a USB Type-C port, a single SD card slot, a built-in mic, and headphone hacks. Additionally, reports say the camera will have Wi-Fi/Bluetooth connectivity.
What else do we know about the new Sony camera?
Other than what was listed above, there isn’t much more that is known about the rumored Sony camera. It may not feature an electronic viewfinder, but sonyalpharumors isn’t for sure on that. Here are a few other features that might come to the camera according to the source:
- It has no EVF
- Very compact A6xxx kind of size
- Price around $1,000 (which makes it the cheapest “new” Sony camera in the lineup)
When will the camera come out?
According to sonyalpharumors, the camera will come out next month:
“Announcement around mid September (if Covid19 doesn’t mess this up),” sonyalpharumors says. “Just a small warning, with all that convid-19 mess the announcement date might change like it did happen with the A7sIII (which was supposed to be announced in June and not July).”
So if the rumor is right, we will know more about the camera very soon.
