Portkeys launches new MOVNORM monitor OS

Portkeys has launched a new operating system for some of its on-camera monitors. The Portkeys MOVNORM OS update is available for Portkeys PT6, LH5P II (V3), LH7H and LH7P monitors.

MOVNORM OS

Portkeys says that the new MOVNORM OS has been completely redesigned, based on feedback from users worldwide. The user interface is also easier to use, requiring fewer gestures so you can navigate the menus more quickly. When you touch the screen, the toolbar appears at the bottom so you can access six customizable monitoring tools. There’s also a brightness slider to adjust the monitor’s backlight.

Status bar

When you click on the battery icon at the top right of the screen, a new status bar will pop up. This shows you the monitor’s battery level, HDMI input connection configuration and if a 3DLUT is active. If a compatible camera is connected to your monitor, it will also show the battery level of the camera. In addition, you can access Camera Control via the status bar. Alternatively, you can swipe up or down on the screen to enter the Camera Control menu.

Camera control

MOVNORM OS now gives you a focus mode selection frame and a zoom adjustment menu. Other features include touch focus, ISO, shutter, aperture and white balance adjustments. You can also assign functions such as ISO, shutter speed or aperture to one of the monitor’s four physical function buttons. In addition, the Record trigger button has been redesigned so you can position it at the bottom left, middle or right of the screen. There’s also a recording time indicator next to the trigger so you can check how long you’ve been filming.

What we think

Portkeys’ new MOVNORM OS has a clean professional look. It’s a big improvement over the clunky, dated interface that the monitors used to run. The ability to access settings with fewer swipes or clicks is also a welcome feature. The last thing you want to do during a shoot is waste time scrolling through menus to change a setting. Feedback on social media from users who have upgraded has been very positive, with no bugs or issues reported so far. If you have a compatible Portkeys monitor, you should consider the MOVNORM OS.

Pricing and availability

The MOVNORM OS is a free update and is available to download from Portkeys’ website support page.
