Atomos announces A-Eye PTZ cameras

Atomos announced a new range of PTZ cameras at NAB in Las Vegas earlier this month. The Atomos A-Eye PTZ cameras combine intelligent tracking, high-quality video and seamless connectivity for simple multi-camera production.

A-Eye range

The Atomos A-Eye range currently includes three cameras:

  • A-Eye 4K-20X
The top-of-the-range A-Eye 4K-20X camera features a 1/1.8-inch UHD CMOS sensor. It also offers a 20x optical zoom. Atomos says it is designed for large venues, stage productions and professional multi-camera productions.
  • A-Eye 4K-12X
The A-Eye 4K-12X uses a slightly smaller 1/2.5-inch UHD CMOS sensor. In addition, the optical zoom only has a 12x range. Atomos says the camera is aimed at creators, classrooms and corporate presentations.
  • A-Eye HD-20X
The HD resolution A-Eye HD-20X features a 1/2.8-inch HD CMOS sensor with 2.07M effective pixels. It also comes with a 20x optical zoom. Atomos says the camera is perfect for education, houses of worship and budget-friendly production setups.

Other features

The A-Eye cameras feature real-time AI-powered tracking. They also offer advanced PTZ motion with a movement range of ±170° in the pan axis and -30° to +90° in the tilt range. Atomos says that the cameras will follow your subject with fluid, precise movement. All three A-Eye models include NDI|HX3 and support H.265, H.264 and MJPEG compression.

Also, they have a wide range of output options, including HDMI, 3G-SDI, USB and IP streaming via RTSP, RTMP and ONVIF. Power over Ethernet (PoE+) support means a single cable can deliver power, video and control as well.

A-Eye Control

The A-Eye range also includes the A-Eye Control. This is dedicated remote-control hub that enables advanced multi-camera operation, preset switching and remote production over IP.

What we think

The new Atomos A-Eye range has a PTZ camera to suit every budget. It’s also good to see that all three cameras have the same features, with the main differences being the sensor resolution and optical zoom range.

Additionally, the AI-powered tracking means that you can be sure your subjects will be perfectly framed. If you are setting up a new PTZ system or looking to upgrade your existing equipment, the Atomos A-Eye range has a lot to offer.

Pricing and availability

The Atomos A-Eye HD-20X costs $1,399, the Atomos A-Eye 4K-12X is $1,899 and Atomos the A-Eye 4K-20X retails at $2,299. The A-Eye Control Unit is priced at $999. Atomos says that you can pre-order the cameras and controller now, with shipping scheduled for June 2025.
