SWIT launches PowerCell batteries for Sony, Canon, Nikon and Fujifilm cameras

SWIT has launched a new range of batteries for mirrorless cameras. The SWIT PowerCell range includes batteries for Sony, Canon, Nikon, and Fujifilm cameras.

Replacement models

There are four batteries in the SWIT PowerCell range at the launch. These are replacements for the Canon LP-E6P, Fujifilm NP-W235, Sony NP-FZ100 and Nikon EN-EL15c models.  SWIT says that the PowerCell batteries use premium cells from Panasonic, a manufacturer globally respected for stability and safety. SWIT also says it has been trialling these batteries with professional users for several months. Based on the feedback and experiences of those users, it is now releasing the PowerCell batteries to all users worldwide.

Seamless compatibility

SWIT says it has designed the PowerCell batteries as a direct slot-in replacement for the manufacturers’ own-brand batteries. The company also says that the PowerCell batteries are 100% compatible with the original camera manufacturer’s specifications for power supply and charging.

In addition, SWIT says that its batteries maintain the exact shape, form and communication protocols of the original batteries. Following a recent firmware update, some Sony cameras have stopped displaying battery power with non-Sony branded batteries. It will be interesting to see if the SWIT PowerCell batteries are recognised by those cameras.

USB charging

You can charge the SWIT PowerCell batteries with your existing battery chargers. However, they also support USB smart charging via the batteries’ integrated USB-C ports. This means that you can charge the PowerCell batteries via dedicated chargers, power banks, in-vehicle charge adapters, or even laptops. Plus, the PowerCell range features real-time power monitoring via instantly visible built-in LED charge indicators on the battery body. SWIT also says that safety is a cornerstone of the PowerCell design. Each unit features a reinforced, flame-retardant housing designed to withstand the rigors of field use.

What we think

Batteries are an essential part of your kit bag, and you can never have enough. The last thing you want is your batteries to run out before the end of a shoot. SWIT’s new PowerCell batteries mean that you can save up to 50% on buying manufacturer brand batteries, so you can buy twice as many. The company also promises the compatibility and reliability you would expect from a respected manufacturer.

Additionally, the option to charge the PowerCell batteries via their USB-C port makes it easy to top up your power from a wide range of sources. Again, this could be a lifesaver out on location. If you are looking to increase your stock of batteries, and use a compatible camera, the SWIT PowerCell range should be on your shortlist.

Pricing and availability

SWIT says that the PowerCell batteries bring the rigorous engineering standards usually reserved for high-end broadcast environments to the prosumer and professional mirrorless market. The company also acknowledges that the cost of original manufacturer batteries can become a significant barrier for independent creators and production houses. As a result, SWIT has delivered the PowerCell batteries at a big saving compared to manufacturer-branded batteries. Canon LP-E6P batteries cost around $79 and Sony NP-FZ100 batteries are around $88. However, the PowerCell equivalents are $39 and $49 respectively, which is a big saving.

SWIT says that the PowerCell battery series is shipping worldwide now through authorized partners and leading e-commerce platforms. The batteries are also available on Amazon and open for pre-order on B&H Photo.

They are priced at:

  • PowerCell Canon LP-E6P replacement battery:  $39
  • PowerCell Fujifilm NP-W235 replacement battery: $35
  • PowerCell Sony NP-FZ100 replacement battery: $49
  • PowerCell Nikon EN-EL15c replacement battery: $39
