By the end of 2019, we’ll see six new EOS R lenses added to Canon’s line of full frame mirrorless camera lenses.
In total, there will be nine lenses offered for the EOS R and EOS RP. The lenses coming out by the end of the year include:
- RF 85mm F1.2 L USM
- RF 85mm F1.2 L USM DS
- RF 24-70mm F2.8 L IS USM
- RF 15-35mm F2.8 L IS USM
- RF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS USM
- RF 24-240mm F4-6.3 IS USM
All six of these RF lenses are currently under development for Canon’s new RF mount, which has a 54mm diameter and shorter back focus than EOS DSLR cameras. Canon claims “Each lens individually fulfills the needs of users ranging from amateur and advanced amateurs to professional photographers and videographers.” Canon also claims its able to achieve the fastest autofocus speed for a full frame mirrorless camera because the RF mount enhances communication and power transmission between the lens and camera body.
