Congratulations Sandisk; the SANDISK Extreme PRO Portable SSD is going home with the award for Best Portable Storage of NAB 2026.
This high-speed and highly durable portable SSD is ready to handle high-resolution footage on the go. This is great news for content creators, journalists, and documentarians who need a safe and efficient way to store and transfer footage out in the field.
Sandisk pitches the Extreme PRO Portable SSD as perfect “for teams who need speed, durability, security, and uncompromised sustained performance.”
By the numbers
The SANDISK Extreme PRO’s NVMe solid state drive delivers burst read speeds up to 4,000 MB/s and sustained write speeds of 3,000 MB/s. That’s for the 2 TB and 4 TB models. Sandisk says these speeds nearly double those of the previous generation of the Extreme PRO.
In terms of durability, the Extreme PRO features a forged aluminum chassis that offers up to three meters of drop protection and IP65 water and dust resistance. The drive’s aluminum body also doubles as a heatsink. Sandisk says this design passively improves the sustained performance of the drive by allowing it to dissipate heat more efficiently. The Extreme PRO is also encased in a silicon shell that provides tactile grip.
For less tangible threats, the new drive offers extra security through built-in password protection and 256-bit AES hardware encryption.
Sandisk says the drives endure hours of rigorous testing to ensure reliability, even in challenging conditions. The SANDISK Extreme PRO Portable SSD comes with a 5-year limited warranty.
