Congrats to DPA Microphones; the 4097 CORE+ Micro Shotgun microphone is Videomaker’s pick for the Best Microphone award at NAB 2026.
The standout feature of this new microphone is DPA’s CORE+ technology. This newly developed tech promises to reduce the distortion that can sometimes muddy audio. This is especially needed at the extreme ends of the mic’s dynamic range. The 4097 CORE+ offers a frequency range of 20 Hz to 20 kHz and a maximum peak sound pressure level (SPL) of 136 dB. For reference, city traffic sits at around 85 dB, and a chainsaw, at 3 feet away, registers at 110 dB.
What is DPA CORE+?
DPA says the new tech “eliminates membrane and component non‑linearities” and produces “exceptionally natural, distortion-free sound.” This means the 4097 CORE+ should be a good pick for tougher recording environments where you might encounter sudden loud sounds. Less distortion also means clearer spoken-word dialogue, giving this microphone special appeal to video producers. Per DPA: “[The 4097 CORE+ Micro Shotgun microphone’s] ability to handle a wide range of vocal levels without sacrificing intelligibility or tonal balance is a direct result of CORE+ technology.”

Look and feel
As a shotgun microphone, the 4097 CORE+, features supercardioid pattern for strong directionality and effective off‑axis rejection. This is good for video producers looking to isolate an actor’s voice while shooting on location.
This latest iteration employs a simplified design and upgraded flexible gooseneck attachment. It also offers an improved shock mount with better isolation from vibrations. These changes are meant to reduce cable noise and other forms of structural interference while keeping the mic up and out of the shot. The new G‑MOUNT system also promises easy one-handed positioning.
The microphone is just as lightweight and compact as ever, and it uses DPA’s MicroLock® connector with backward compatibility support for MicroDot systems.
