Polish company MotionVFX announced that it is now joined Apple. MotionVFX creates plug-ins, templates, and visual effects for video editing software.
Who is MotionVFX?
MotionVFX is based in Warsaw, Poland. The company was founded in 2009 by Szymon Masiak. Masiak had previously worked in VFX on films including Sin City and Pan’s Labyrinth. He began by working on his own to produce ready-made video templates for video editors. Now MotionVFX employs 70 people and generated revenue of 6.8 million euros ($7.8 million) last year. You can buy some of its products outright while others are available with a monthly or annual subscription.
MotionVFX products
MotionVFX has products for Adobe’s Premiere Pro and After Effects, Blackmagic Design DaVinci Resolve, and Final Cut Pro. The company has released titles, transitions, and LUTs aimed at content creators and cinematic productions. MotionVFX has also produced the Design Studio extension for Final Cut Pro. With this, users can select and install effects and templates from within Final Cut Pro. In addition, mFilmLook is a tool for grading video to look like film, and with mO2 you can use 3D models inside Final Cut Pro.

What has been announced?
MotionVFX announced the acquisition on its website with a news pop-up headed “This is our biggest edit yet… MotionVFX joins Apple!” The post says that MotionVFX is joining the Apple team “to continue to empower creators and editors to do their best work.” Additionally, the company stated, “From the very beginning, we’ve been all about quality, ease of use, and great design. These are also the values that we admire most in Apple’s products, and we’re thrilled to be able to embrace them together.” MotionVFX also thanked its customers for their support and said it was “excited to continue our work to serve you.”
What next?
It’s been reported online that Apple has bought 100% of the shares in MotionVFX. MotionVFX’s 70 employees have also now joined Apple. At the time of writing, MotionVFX is still selling its products via its own website. However, it hasn’t been announced whether or this this will continue.
What we think
Back in January, Apple announced its Creator Studio software subscription. This move was seen as an attempt to compete with Adobe’s Creative Cloud model. However, Apple’s Creator Studio had far fewer products at the time of launch. It could be that Apple intends to offer MotionVFX’s products as part of Creator Studio to boost the value for money to subscribers. It will also be interesting to see whether MotionVFX continues to produce products for DaVinci Resolve and Premiere Pro now it is part of Apple. Whatever happens next, this is an exciting time for Final Cut Pro users.
