Irix has announced the Cine 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1. It’s the first lens in a line of full-frame cinema lenses, and it’s ready for 8K UHD video capture.
The 150mm T3.0 is based on the same optical designed used in the Irix 150mm f/2.8 Macro 1:1. Essentially, that consists of 12 optical elements arranged in 9 groups. Four of those are high refractive index glass and three are low-dispersion glass. Irix claims this is a winning design that offers “superb resolution,” with nearly zero chromatic aberrations and visible distortion.
Let’s start with the 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1’s design
The side edges of the focus gear-rings on the lens are shielded by a special ring. At the same time, it provides a larger area for easier manual handling. And it still is compatible with follow-focus systems.
In addition, the lens has been equipped with a Magnetic Mount system for its accessories. This system should make it very easy and fast to attach and detach any accessory, which is crucial in the middle of a shoot. Some of the first accessories include detachable and reversible lens hoods. They are included with the lens. Irix promises there will be more accessories coming soon.
The Irix 150mm T3.0 lens is equipped with a removable support foot with a 1/4 thread, which stabilizes the lens when using a follow focus system and protects the camera mount.
150mm T3.0’s durability
For durability, the Irix 150mm T3.0 Macro 1:1 has been made to withstand numerous weather conditions. It’s equipped with several seals that protect the lens from dust, rain and splashes of water.
Supported camera mounts
The lens will be offered in a couple of lens mounts. Those mounts are: Canon EF, Sony E, MFT and PL.
