Insta360 debuts major features for Insta360 Studio

Insta360 has announced a significant update to its free desktop editing software, Insta360 Studio. The company says that the update delivers some hugely anticipated features along with a fresh new design and layout. Insta360 Studio is designed for editing 360 degree video but can also be used with regular flat footage.

Work with multiple clips and projects

With the new updated version of Insta360 Studio, you can now combine multiple 360 degree files in a single timeline. Previously, this would have required an additional workflow outside of Insta360 Studio, so this is a big improvement. You can simply start a new Project, then add your 360 degree clips to the timeline to trim and reorder as you want. In addition, you can now have multiple edits on the go at the same time. You can just start a new project and switch between open projects with a click.

Add music, text, and transitions

Another big feature of the updated Insta360 Studio is the ability to add background music, text and transitions to your edits. You can choose music from a wide selection of free-to-use songs or import your own mp3 files. When adding text, you can also use animations and effects to customize your edit. In addition, Insta360 Studio now incorporates a library of plug-and-play transitions. These transitions include camera movements, special effects and even full 360 options like a Tiny Planet or barrel roll.

Efficiency improvements

The new version of Insta360 Studio has several new additions to speed up your editing process. You can now simply right click to add a keyframe. Previously you had to click on the timeline and then reframe or adjust the clip in a second action. Editing is also now synced so that when you edit a file on the new Media page, your changes update your ongoing projects and the Temporary Media folder. In addition, you can customize the speed of clips on your timeline with the Speed Editor. The new General Media folder is great for adding regularly used files such as end cards, background music and logos as well.

What we think

Insta360 Studio is great for quick and easy edits of your 360 degree camera footage as well as flat video clips. Obviously, the software doesn’t have the sophistication of apps such as Premiere Pro, Davinci Resolve or Final Cut. However, Insta360 Studio’s simplicity is also one of its strengths. In addition, the new features such as background music, text and transitions will help to make your content even more impactful. Best of all, Insta 360 Studio is free to download with no hidden costs to limit the features. If you work with 360 degree video, you should give the software a go to see if it meets your needs.

Pricing and availability

The free Insta360 Studio update is available for download from the Insta360 website for both Windows and macOS now. It’s compatible with all Insta360 consumer action cameras, including the Ace, Ace Pro, ONE RS/R, X3/ ONE X2/ONE X, GO 3/2, Sphere, EVO, GO, ONE, Nano S, Nano and Air. The download also contains the Insta360 plugins for Adobe Premiere Pro and Final Cut Pro X.
