DJI Mini 5 Pro is the world’s first mini camera drone with a one-inch sensor

DJI has launched its latest drone, the Mini 5 Pro. The company says that it’s the world’s first mini camera drone with a one-inch sensor.

50 MP sensor

The DJI Mini 5 Pro features a 50 MP 1-inch sensor. DJI says that this preserves even minute details in low-light conditions, such as sunsets and nightscapes. The Mini 5 Pro also has a new 48 mm Med-Tele mode with a higher digital zoom resolution than on previous models. This should make your subjects stand out with greater texture, as well as adding depth.

The Mini 5 Pro uses DJI’s portrait optimization technology. This enhances the brightness, contrast, and skin tones to make them look naturally radiant with more vivid expressions.

HDR video

The DJI Mini 5 Pro can capture HDR video in 4K at 60 fps with up to 14 stops of dynamic range. DJI says that this delivers cinematic footage in high-contrast scenes, such as detailed views of cloud textures and other elements during sunrise and sunset. You can also shoot slow-motion footage at 120fps in 4K. The Mini 5 Pro can record 10-bit video using H.265 encoding with the maximum ISO raised to 12800. In addition, in D-Log M and HLG color modes, the maximum ISO is raised to 3200. DJI says this allows for greater brightness and more details in urban night scenes.

225° roll rotation

The DJI Mini 5 Pro supports wide-angle 225° roll rotation, which delivers flexible and dynamic camera movement. You can pair this feature with intelligent modes like QuickShot Rotate, Timelapse, Spotlight, and Waypoint Flight, so capturing creative rotating footage is easier than ever before. The Mini 5 Pro also offers true vertical shooting. This is ideal for shooting skyscrapers, waterfalls, and city scenes with no cropping needed before you can use your footage.

Also, ActiveTrack 360° has been upgraded with customizable tracking for various scenarios and has a more stable and safer tracking performance than previous models.

Safer flights

The DJI Mini 5 Pro features forward-facing LiDAR, fisheye lenses on the front and rear, binocular lenses, and a 3D infrared sensor on the bottom. These deliver omnidirectional obstacle sensing for safer flights. In city nightscapes, the drone actively detects and avoids obstacles along flight and return paths for worry-free flying. With sufficient light, the Mini 5 Pro can also memorize flight routes, enabling safe take-off and return even without a satellite signal. Additionally, with L1 + L5 dual-band GNSS, the Mini 5 Pro connects to more satellites for improved signal stability and precise positioning.

What we think

The headline new feature of the DJI Mini 5 Pro is its 1-inch camera sensor. This delivers more than twice the sensor area of the 1/1.3-inch sensor in the previous Mini 4 Pro model. This means that it can capture more light, which should give better images in low-light settings. The Mini 5 Pro also includes the upgraded obstacle avoidance with LiDAR from DJI’s Air line of drones. All in all, it’s a great new addition to DJI’s family of drones. The only problem for U.S. customers is that DJI currently has no plans to sell the Mini 5 Pro in America. This is because of the ongoing issues with U.S. Customs blocking DJI imports. For the rest of the world, the DJI Mini 5 Pro may be your new favourite compact drone.

Pricing and availability

The DJI Mini 5 Pro is available worldwide now, except in the U.S. due to the ongoing ban situation. In Europe, the drone is priced at €799. There are also two Fly More Combos. These come with the DJI RC-N3 for €999 or the DJI RC 2 for €1129.
