Even if you take all the precautions necessary to keep your drone safe, sometimes accidents happen. DJI now offers a new program, the DJI Care Flyaway program, in its DJI Care Fresh service. The new service covers DJI Mini 2 and Mavic Air 2 drones lost during flight. DJI will replace Mini 2 and Mavic Air 2 drones lost during flight, water damage, collision and high drops. Additionally, DJI is offering accidental damage repair in the DJI Care Flyaway program, starting at $49 for both drones.
DJI Care Flyaway will replace your DJI Mini 2 or Mavic Air 2 drone
If you lose your DJI Mini 2 or Mavic Air 2 drone during one of your flights, DJI Care Flyaway will cover the cost to replace it. However, you do need to pay a corresponding fee to get a replacement drone. But, the cost overall is a lot less than having to pay full price for a replacement. The replacement you receive will be either a drone that’s “brand new or equivalent to brand new in performance and reliability,” according to DJI. Newshooter worries this means customers receiving will end up receiving used drones—not new ones.
DJI Care Flyaway is a part of DJI’s Care Fresh service and only applies to the DJI Mini 2 and Mavic Air 2. You have to purchase the DJI Care Refresh service to receive this benefit. If you already purchased the DJI Care Refresh service, you currently have access to the Care Flyaway program.
You must have bound your DJI account and remote controller with your drone via the DJI Fly app. If you haven’t done this yet, you won’t be able to use Flyaway Coverage. So, it’s very important you do this.
How much does DJI Care Flyaway coverage cost?
Before you receive the benefits of DJI Care Flyaway, you need to pay for the DJI Care Fresh service. For the DJI Mini 2, it costs about $42. For the DJI Mavic Air 2, it costs around $79. If you have DJI Care Refresh paid for, you need to pay a corresponding service fee to replace your drone. The Mini 2 replacement costs $225 and the Mavic Air 2 costs $399. In total, you’ll save roughly $180 replacing the Mini 2 and about $320 replacing the Mavic Air 2 using the DJI Care Flyaway program (compared to buying a replacement without coverage).
DJI’s one-year Care Fresh service offers two $49 drone repairs and one replacement. In the two-year plan, you get three repairs and two replacements.
