Canon EOS R5 and R6’s releases could be pushed back

The coronavirus is impacting the camera industry in huge ways. Canon has temporarily shut down a lot of production factories already and they might push back the release dates for both the Canon EOS R5 and R6.

According to a report from Canon Rumors, they received word from a source that Canon’s deciding between releasing the cameras on their originally planned release dates or pushing the release back. If Canon were to push back the releases, the report says it would be likely by a few months. Canon hasn’t released anything official about this, but we could see the dates pushed back soon.

Canon still has some time to decide, but time is running out

Originally, the Canon EOS R5 was going to release in June and the R6 would release the following month in July. While Canon still has about three months to decide for the R6 and four months for the R5, the company needs to make a decision soon. There’s a lot of preparation required before cameras release. If Canon were to delay the releases, we expect they would announce it sometime soon, rather than near the cameras’ current release dates.

If Canon were to push back the cameras’ releases, Canon Rumors claims the camera may not be released until October.

Why is this happening?

Many manufacturers’ supply chains are hurting right now. So many Chinese factories are being temporarily closed to prevent spreading the coronavirus. These supply chains are dependent on Chinese factories, so the virus is having a huge impact on production. We could be in a low-quantity/high-demand situation for the Canon EOS R5 and R6 if the original releases are kept.

However, there is some hope. China’s total infected numbers are starting to drop, so this impact may just be temporary.
