Angelbird has launched a new portable SSD designed for video, photo and audio professionals. The Angelbird SSD2GO PKT SSD is available in capacities of 2 TB and 4 TB.
Design
The new Angelbird SSD2GO PKT SSD has a very compact design. It measures just 2.76 inches (70 mm) by 0.37 inches (9.5 mm) by 1.79 inches (45.5 mm). Thanks to its aluminum construction, the SSD2GO PKT is also super lightweight at only 1.8 ounces (50 g).
Also, the durable construction means the drive can resist extreme temperatures, shock, electrostatic discharge and overloads. Visually, one side of the SSD2GO PKT is bright gold, and the other side is a discreet black color.
Read and write speeds
The Angelbird SSD2GO PKT SSD features a fast USB-C 3.2 Gen 2×2 interface. This can deliver a maximum data transfer rate of up to 20 Gb/s. The SSD2GO PKT also has a maximum read and write speed of 1800 MB/s.
In addition, Angelbird says that the sustained read speed is 1,700 MB/s, and the sustained write speed is 1,600 MB/s. The company’s Stable Stream technology ensures consistent performance across the entire capacity of the SSD.
Solid Connect
The SSD2GO PKT SSD features Angelbird’s unique Solid Connect recessed USB-C port. The plug on the supplied Solid Flex USB-C 4.0 cable fits entirely within the body of the drive to protect your connection and reduce cable wear. There’s also a physical Write-Protect-Switch on the SSD2GO PKT SSD. This ensures that you don’t have to worry about accidentally deleting files or formatting your SSD while offloading. There’s even a handy LED light so you know when the switch is active.

As cameras shoot in ever higher resolutions, so the need for larger capacity storage increases. The Angelbird SSD2GO PKT SSD is a great solution for longer shoots if your camera supports recording directly to an SSD disk via USB-C. It’s also small enough to be ideal for use with smartphones such as the iPhone 15 and 16 models which can record ProRes to an external disk. Additionally, design features such as the recessed USB-C port and write protect switch will give you more confidence using the drives in the field.
