When it comes to lighting in the video making industry, a variety of high quality fixtures are available for both studio and on location applications. However, this equipment is quite expensive, cumbersome and energy consuming. In certain applications the lighting system may be unnecessarily surplus and affect the mobility of the team. These situations call for a lighting system that provides both adequate lighting and portability.

Designed for portability, the Sachtler Reporter 300H can be used by holding in the hand, mounting it on a stand or on a camera using the built-in mount. But portability is only the second to lighting. The fixture is compatible with tungsten bulbs having a power rating of up to a maximum of 300 watts. Units are available for both 120 volts and 230 volts inputs.
The unit can be operated within a wide tilt angle, 80 degrees upwards and 80 degrees downwards. To control the spread of the beam both horizontally and vertically, a four leaf barn door has been provided at the front of the fixture. It provides a maximum luminosity of about 930 lux of spot light and approximately 270 lux of flood light.
The most distinguishing feature of the Reporter 300H is SachtlerÂ’s patented swinging motion filter slot. Use of either a diffuser to soften the light or a filter to alter the color temperature of the output is both convenient and fast. A filter is simply slid through the slot and brought in front of the light by merely swinging the filter slot around the axis of the light beam. On the rim of the slot is a handle to provide convenient handling of the swinging motion. When the filter is not required, it can be put into a lock position away from the beam, in a position where it is ready to be used if needed again. The locking mechanism does not need and tools, just slight push and pull to lock and free the rotation respectively.
