We've already seen a passive television from LG, but now Panasonic has put its hat in the ring with their first ever LED television sporting a passive 3D technology. The beauty of passive 3D televisions is that they don't require expensive powered glasses that need to be in sync with your television to watch (a huge sigh of relief). They merely require the same kind of eyewear that you're used to wearing in a theater with one lens being polarized and the other one clear.
This makes watching 3D much easier on the eyes since there's no shutter constantly blocking your view (and subsequently half the light) to your eye and won't cost an arm and a leg if your son or daughter breaks one. In fact, you could just go to the local movie theater for a 3D film and you'd have the glasses you need all over again! The LCD television from Panasonic is a whopping 55 inches, has an amazing 360Hz refresh rate, has built-in WiFi (noticing a theme at CES this year?), four HDMI ports, two USB ports, and a cloud-based Viera Connect system. Pretty much everything you wanted in a 3D television.
They have several sizes ranging from the TC-L42ET5 at 42 inches, a 47 inch, and a 65 inch version. No prices have been announced yet. So far the television lineup at CES has been rather impressive. Companies have been manufacturing much larger televisions, built-in Wi-Fi, and even passive 3D technology which should lead to a larger adoption of the 3D technology by consumers.
This also means that in the near future, consumers will be able to watch every video we edit in its full 1080p glory on screens up to 80 inches in size. When the screen gets that big, there will be almost no room for error when shooting or editing footage – something we'll all have to keep in mind!
