Another AMD 64-second contest

It’s amazing the story a 64-second film can tell. The ultimate short film can be just as creative, unique and powerful as a feature-length. Just not as much time for popcorn.

The " AMD 64 Seconds at ACL Fest" competition from Austin City Limits is like a battle of the bands, but with digital films instead of tunes. In this contest, amateur filmmakers compete for an all-expenses paid trip to the 2006 ACL Music Festival in Austin, Texas. There, four finalists, including a student contestant, will have the chance to shoot inside the music festival park and turn their footage into a masterpiece: a 64-second short film about their weekend at ACL Fest – created within mere hours using AMD LIVE! PCs powered by the AMD Athlon 64 X2 dual-core processor.

All four shorts are then posted to this site for public voting and the one receiving the most votes wins the grand prize, including an AMD LIVE! Multimedia System with powerful editing software.

So you aspiring movie makers — take note! This contest is your chance to get your work seen on a big stage.

Lights. Camera. Action!

In Round 1, contestants must create and submit an original 64-second digital film by August 27. The film can be about almost anything – ACL-related or otherwise. From music to mullets, Austin to Albania — your film submission is about showing off your talents and creativity.

Celebrities narrow the field.

After August 27, a panel of celebrity judges, soon to be announced, will review all the films and rank their favorites based on creativity, originality, technical prowess, and potential. By August 31, we’ll announce the four lucky finalists, including one from the student category, as selected by our judges. Chosen submissions will be featured on aclfestival.com/amd64seconds and on demand on mtvU network’s all-access broadband channel, mtvU ber at mtvU.com.

Texas shoot-out.

Our four finalists will be invited to Austin for an all-expenses-paid trip to the Festival in September. After a brief orientation session on September 14, we’ll arm the finalists with an AMD LIVE! PC and video camera and turn them loose into Zilker Park to film. The topic: "My ACL Fest Experience in 64 Seconds.&qout; But get this: the minute the Festival is over Sunday night, the four finalists have to hit the AMD LIVE! editing room and turn their footage into a 64-second tour de force. And it’s due at 3 p.m. Monday, the day following the Festival!

Vote online.

The ACL team will upload all four of the final 64-second films to the aclfestival.com/amd64seconds site on September 18, but we’ll need help determining the Grand Prize winner. And that’s where the fans come in. Online voting will take place until September 29 when the finalist whose submission receives the most votes will be named the Grand Prize winner, and will take home a huge prize package.
