Canopus Announces Edius Pro 3

Reprinted from a Canopus press release:

Canopus Corporation today announced EDIUS Pro 3, the latest version of its professional nonlinear editing software. EDIUS Pro 3, already available in Canopus’s acclaimed EDIUS HD, EDIUS SD and EDIUS SP/NX for HDV editing systems, frees video editors from the limitations of conventional editing systems by providing a seamless workflow with support for popular video acquisition formats and realtime, multi-track, mixed format HD/SD editing, compositing, chroma keying, titling and timeline output capabilities. EDIUS Pro 3 is designed for maximum performance, delivering realtime output of multiple video tracks, effects, and graphics and title layers. Canopus is offering a special EDIUS Pro 3 upgrade promotion price of $149 to current EDIUS 2.x users. This promotion begins today and runs until February 28, 2005.

EDIUS Pro 3 provides editors with true realtime, mixed format editing of HD and SD footage, including HDV, DV, MPEG-2, lossless and uncompressed video formats. Featuring unrivaled realtime video transcoding technology, EDIUS Pro 3 delivers realtime bidirectional conversion and playback of HD and SD resolutions, aspect ratios and frame rates, including NTSC and PAL. To further streamline the production workflow, EDIUS Pro 3 also features realtime playback and DV output of all effects, keyers, transitions and titles, and can export projects to any format or medium required, including DVD-Video with direct-to-DVD timeline export.

At the core of EDIUS Pro 3’s HD editing capabilities is the award-winning Canopus HQ codec. The Canopus HQ codec features adjustable bitrate settings and chroma sampling that exceeds HDCAM format to deliver pristine quality HD video. While EDIUS Pro 3 provides editing support of native HDV MPEG-2 transport streams, editors can also capture from HDV cameras and decks directly to the Canopus HQ codec for increased realtime-editing performance.

EDIUS Pro 3 includes many new features EDIUS users have requested, including support for QuickTime import to the timeline, the new Canopus Lossless codec for lossless capture of SD footage, improved white balance, layer blending keyers for high-quality compositing, Canopus QuickTitler with roll/crawl support, improved audio handling with channel mapping functions, and numerous user interface customization options. EDIUS Pro 3 also supports EDL import and export, with full timeline reconstruction and project trimming functionality.

EDIUS Pro 3 directly supports Windows-based OHCI-compliant FireWire adaptors, as well as Canopus’s range of realtime editing hardware solutions, including EDIUS editing systems, DVStorm series and DVRaptor RT2 series, that provide video input/output and accelerated realtime editing performance.

Availability and Pricing
