MCE Ships QuickStream DV FireWire Capture Device

Reprinted from an MCE press release:

MCE Technologies, LLC (MCE) today announced that it is shipping the next generation QuickStream DV, a portable, camera-mountable, self-powered digital video (DV) capture and storage solution that dramatically accelerates the video post-production process. A key new feature of the updated QuickStream DV is its ability to playback recorded clips in the field, over FireWire, right to the DV camcorder’s LCD monitor. Another new feature, SureCapture, ensures that you will never miss a single moment while recording: Up to 6 seconds of video are continuously being stored in the QuickStream DV’s video buffer, and this “pre-video” is added to the front of the clip once the “Record” button is pressed, guaranteeing you will never miss an important shot. Also, MCE StreamManager clip organizing software, previously available for the Mac only, has just been released for Windows and is available on the MCE web site as a free download. The new QuickStream DV is available for immediate shipping in 1.5 hour/20GB, 3 hour/40GB, 4.5 hour/60GB, and 6 hour/80GB models.

“The original QuickStream DV was a great success for us and we are proud to announce the second generation QuickStream DV with enhanced features based on videographer feedback,” said Arnold Ramirez, President, MCE Technologies, LLC. “The ability to instantly review recorded clips in the field is a significant timesaver and affords the videographer peace of mind in knowing his shots are exactly as he or she desires.”

DV footage is captured to the QuickStream DV during shooting and is instantly saved in one of several selectable file formats for complete native compatibility with virtually all Mac and PC based video editing applications such as Final Cut Pro, Adobe Premiere, Canopus DVStorm, iMovie, etc. Switching the DV camcorder to VTR/VCR mode, the new QuickStream DV can playback the last captured clip directly to the DV camcorder’s LCD display.

The QuickStream DV includes MCE StreamManager clip management software compatible with Mac OS 10.2 or later, as well as Windows 98SE/2000/XP. The software instantly displays all clips recorded by the QuickStream DV and allows the user to preview, rename, delete, copy or move those clips as well as instantly see storage capacity and recording time that remains on the drive.

The QuickStream DV works with any DV camcorder with a FireWire, IEEE 1394, or i.LINK interface and records in user selectable file formats including QuickTime (.mov), raw DV (.dv), Windows AVI2, (.avi), and Canopus AVI2 (.avi). The QuickStream DV is cross-platform compatible and supports operating systems Mac OS 9.2, Mac OS 10.2 and above, Windows 98SE/2000/XP and Linux.

Also included is a camera accessory shoe (hot shoe) mount, belt clip attachment, 4 pin to 6 pin and 6 pin to 6 pin FireWire cables, universal AC Adapter, and a user’s guide. The QuickStream DV is available in four models: 1.5 hour/20GB, 3 hours/40GB, 4.5 hours/60GB, and 6 hours/80GB of recording time carrying an MSRP of $599, $729, $849, and $999 respectively.
