BenQ today unveiled the world’s first 8x DVD writer, the BenQ DW800A. The DW800A breaks current DVD recording speeds at 8x DVD write on DVD+R formats and 4x DVD rewrite on DVD+RW. The BenQ DW800A has a manufacturer’s suggested retail price of $199 and will be available in September 2003 through BenQ distribution channels.
The BenQ DW800A, in conjunction with DVD+RW technology, delivers superior functionality and performance over other DVD recording formats. It boasts an 8MB internal buffer for seamless writing of DVDs. The DW800A allows users to create a full 4.7GB DVD+R disc in a quick seven minutes, half the time of current 4x DVD recording drives. The DW800A also features 12x DVD read, 24x CD-R write, 10x CD-RW rewrite and 40x CD read speeds.
“DVD+RW brings convenience and most importantly, speed, to the consumer,” said Jessica Chou, vice president of Optical Storage at BenQ America Corp. “As the fastest DVD writer on the market, consumers can enjoy seamless, real-time recording from multiple video sources in minutes.”
In addition to its ability to provide fast, reliable burns, the BenQ DW800A supports the broadest range of DVD formats and utilizes the IDE interface, giving users easy access to the convenience of DVD burning without the worry of compatibility issues.
