Lexar Professional Workflow Go Docking Station review: A handy, portable hub for on-the-go creators

When you’re traveling for a shoot, the last thing you want to do is carry your entire editing setup with you to offload what you capture. That’s the problem the Lexar Professional Workflow Go Docking Station looks to solve. Designed for videographers and creators who need a quick and portable way to back up footage, this two-bay docking station aims to offer both flexibility and speed when shooting video on the go.

So, does the Workflow Go deliver enough speed and reliability to justify its spot in your camera bag? Let’s take a closer look at what it offers.

Lexar Professional Workflow Go Docking Station overview

The Professional Workflow Go Docking Station features two bays that support Lexar’s UHS-II SD and microSD readers, CFexpress Type A and B readers and portable SSDs. It operates similarly to its more advanced sibling, the Lexar Workflow Docking Station (you can read our review for that here). Both of the Workflow Go’s bays deliver transfer speeds of up to 10 gigabits per second.

Connectivity and compatibility

Additionally, the dock features two extra USB-C ports, allowing you to connect your phone or other devices to back up and manage files in the field without needing a laptop. Power comes from a rechargeable 5,000 mAh battery that lasts more than four hours and can also charge other USB-C devices while you work.

It works with any smartphone equipped with USB-C. You can manage files directly from your phone or through the Lexar app, which is available for both iOS and Android. The docking station ships with a USB-C to USB-C cable. Extra battery packs are available separately for those who need additional power for extended days in the field.

Build

Despite being portable and made for mobile offloading, the construction feels super durable. The entire unit is constructed from aluminum, so right out of the box, we felt that the Workflow Go looks and feels ready for professional-level usage. The bonus for using aluminum is that it makes the device more resistant to scratches than other materials. Additionally, it helps with heat dissipation.

In terms of size, the main docking station measures just 5.4 by 3 by 1.5 inches and weighs 11.2 ounces, making it small enough to slip into a camera bag without adding much bulk. The battery itself is 3 by 1.5 by 1.4 inches and weighs 5.5 ounces.

Setting up

Setting up the Workflow Go is super simple. All you have to do is plug in the 5,000 mAh battery into the device and then connect it to your phone via USB-C. Note, you will need to have the Lexar app downloaded onto your device to be able to offload your files onto whatever media you have connected to the Workflow Go. Note: You can either offload flies from your smartphone onto a SD card or transfer files between two cards via the two slots.

From there, in the app, you choose the source and the destination of your files. After that, you’re prompted to name the file where you’ll store the media. If you want to keep things simple, you can simply select a date from a calendar and the app will put that date down as the file’s name. Then, you’re good to go to offload.

What we liked

Its build

First off, we love the form factor of the Workflow Go. It’s compact enough to slip into a camera bag without taking up much room, yet it never feels fragile. In fact, it could even fit in some pockets if you have ones that are deep enough. For a device tailored to on-the-go videographers and creators, we believe it delivers a fully portable, professional storage solution experience.

Additionally, the aluminum construction provides a solid, premium feel that can withstand the bumps and scrapes of travel.

Speed

We also found the transfer speeds to be quite fast during our testing. With 10-gigabit-per-second performance on both slots, the Workflow Go made backing up large, high-resolution files fast during the tests. We were able to offload our phone’s SD card’s entire storage (approximately 17.52 GB) in just 12 minutes. That kind of speed is quite helpful when you’re out filming with your phone and want to instantly back up your files, or want to have it on your SD right when you get back to your editing workspace. For instance, it would be especially helpful for wedding shooters or event videographers who deal with multiple cards after a long day of filming and want to get started on transferring the files into one central location.

Price

At under $100, the Workflow Go is priced competitively for what it offers. Many single-card readers cost almost as much, yet this docking station adds dual slots, a rechargeable battery, mobile backup capabilities and a durable build.

For creators looking for a professional tool without the professional price tag, it’s a strong value.

Can charge your device

Another feature we like is that the Workflow Go’s battery doesn’t just power the dock itself; it can also charge your other USB-C devices. With a 5,000 mAh battery built in, you can plug in your phone, camera accessories or wireless mics and give them a boost while you work. It’s a convenient extra that saves space in your bag since you won’t need to carry a separate power bank.

What we disliked

Compatibility with iPhones

The one real drawback is compatibility with iPhones. While the dock works perfectly with USB-C-equipped devices, iPhone users will run into limitations unless they’re using the newest models. Even so, iOS support for external storage can be inconsistent, which makes the experience less seamless than it is with Android devices.

In our own experience with the device, this review unfortunately had an iPhone 11 on hand and had to go on the hunt for an available Android device that would work with the USB-C adapter. Thankfully, I was able to find one, but it would be nice for the device to support both Android and iOS, considering how many creators are using their iPhones to shoot pro-level video.

For those relying heavily on iPhones in their workflow, this could be a sticking point.

Is the Lexar Professional Workflow Go Docking Station worth it?

After spending time with the Lexar Professional Workflow Go Docking Station, it’s clear this little device fills a real need for creators working outside a traditional studio. Its compact size, durable aluminum construction and fast transfer speeds make it a tool you can rely on when backing up footage in the field. Being able to offload cards quickly and keep moving is a huge win for videographers and photographers who don’t want to lug around a laptop just to secure their files.

Pair that with the ability to charge your phone or other USB-C devices directly from the dock’s battery, and you start to see how versatile this setup can be.

The Workflow Go’s price point is another highlight. For under $100, you get a rugged, battery-powered dock with multiple slots, fast transfer speeds and cross-platform compatibility. That’s a lot of value for creators on a budget, especially those shooting events or travel content where time and gear space are always tight. (Do note: You will need to purchase a Lexar card reader or a Lexar Professional Workflow Portable SSD to be able to use this product.)

The only real drawback comes down to iPhone compatibility. Unless you’re using one of the latest USB-C-equipped models, iOS support for external storage can be hit or miss. That limits how useful the Workflow Go can be for iPhone shooters who want to skip the laptop entirely. Android and desktop users won’t run into this problem, but it’s something to keep in mind if you rely heavily on Apple’s ecosystem.

Overall, the Lexar Professional Workflow Go Docking Station delivers on its promise. It’s fast, portable and affordable, with enough features to make it a go-to companion for creators who want to back up on the go without sacrificing speed or convenience.
