At VidCon 2019, YouTube announced it’s introducing new ways for creators to money on YouTube.
YouTube says it’s expanding several of its new products like channel memberships and merch shelves. The platform is also introducing new products like Learning Playlists. Super Stickers are also being added to existing monetization tool, Super Chat.
New features coming that’ll help creators make money on YouTube
Super Stickers
First impressions, Super Stickers seem to be based on Twitch’s Bits emotes and cheermotes — animated stickers that viewers can send during streams. While similar, YouTube’s Super Stickers should have a different look and feel. They’ll also be offered across different languages and categories — including gaming, fashion and beauty, sports, music, and food.
YouTube’s changing Channel Memberships
Right now, fans can pay $4.99 per month for a Channel Membership subscription to get unique badges, new emojis and other special perks. But, there’s been a lot of requests for YouTube to change its membership system.
In response, YouTube is adding membership levels.
Now, creators can set up to five different price points for memberships. Each level can have its own set of perks and benefits. Reportedly, YouTubers that tested this system found their membership revenue increased by up to six times.
Expanding the Merch shelf
The Merch shelf is expanding because it’s getting a few more partners. Those partners include Crowdmade, DFTBA, Fanjoy, Represent and Rooster Teeth.
Creators should see a boost in revenue with these updates
According to YouTube, thousands of channels have more than doubled their revenue since the release of Merch shelf, Super Chat and Channel Memberships. It seems like these updates will bring more revenue for creators and also may increase viewer engagement.
