XF50mm F1.0 R WR is the fastest AF mirrorless camera lens

Fujifilm announced a groundbreaking lens. The company claims the XF50mm F1.0 R WR is the “world’s first autofocus lens with a maximum aperture of f/1.0″ for X-series mirrorless cameras.

Essentially, this the the fastest autofocus lens that’s been produced for mirrorless cameras. It has an aperture of f/1.0, meaning that this lens is extremely fast and bright. f/1.0 is extremely rare for a lens to have, so it just shows how unique this lens really is. In total, the lens is 4.07 inches long and weighs 1.86 pounds. Overall, these are average measurements. The lens isn’t small, but it isn’t too big either. The XF50mmF1.0 R WR lens is made from 12 lens elements in nine groups.

Let’s take a closer look at the XF50mm F1.0 R WR

Fujifilm’s f/1.0 lens autofocus system should make it easier for users to use AF. According to Fujifilm, the system is “fast and precise… even in near darkness.” Additionally, its manual focus should be easier to adjust due to a new focus ring design.

At f/1.0, the lens will allow the Fuji X-Pro3 and X-T4 cameras’ autofocus systems to operate at -7EV. Previously, that was limited to -6EV. Also, the lens’ AF system is powered by a direct current (DC) motor, relying on the Fuji X-Series PDAF for directions. However, you can choose to go manual if you so choose.

The XF50mm F1.0 R WR includes an autofocus motor and full weather sealing. This allows the lens to be fully protected against dust and moisture. It can also withstand temperatures down to 14°F (-10°C).

Pricing and availability

The XF50mmf/1.0 R WR is open for pre-order right now for $1,500. While it’s on the pricier side for a lens, it’s actually a lot more affordable than other options, like the $8,000 Z-Noct. It is a very unique lens that actually offers a lot for its price. We can expect the lens to ship in Fall 2020.
