TeamGroup has launched a new SDXC UHS-II U3 2TB SD memory card. Although there are other 2 TB SD cards, the T-Create Expert memory card is the first with a V90 speed rating.
Read and write speeds
The T-Create Expert 2TB SDXC memory card has a read speed of up to 300 MB/s and a write speed of up to 260 MB/s. It is also certified with the fast V90 speed class and supports UHS speed class 3 (U3).
In addition, TeamGroup says that the card uses advanced pSLC (Pseudo SLC) techniques so that your data is written stably without speed reduction. The T-Create Expert 2TB SDXC memory card supports UHS-II and is backward compatible with UHS-I cameras and video recorders.
8K video
TeamGroup says that the T-Create Expert 2TB SDXC V90 memory card supports 8K, 4K Ultra-HD, 3D and RAW file recording without frame drops. As a result, the new card is ideal for long shoots using cinema-grade digital cameras, full-frame cameras, mirrorless cameras, and DSLRs. The large 2 TB capacity means that you can record for up to two hours and eight minutes in 6K at 59.94p with the Canon EOS C400.
Increased durability
The T-Create Expert 2TB SDXC V90 memory card is designed to withstand the demands of extreme filming conditions. It is IP67-rated for dust and water resistance.
Also, it has been rigorously tested for shock, vibration, X-ray and extreme temperature resistance. If things do go wrong, you also get support from TeamGroup’s data recovery services during the five-year warranty period.
What we think
As video recording resolutions increase, so does the need for ever larger storage options. Some filmmakers prefer to use smaller cards to reduce the overall impact on a shoot if a single card fails. However, if you need to record a continuous performance, then larger cards are essential. Even with the T-Create Expert 2TB SDXC V90 memory card, you will still only just have enough capacity to record a two-hour live show or theater play at the highest quality. It’s quite a specialist need though, and you will need deep pockets to be able to afford to put this card in your camera.
Pricing and availability
TeamGroup hasn’t announced pricing or a launch date for the T-Create Expert SDXC UHS-II U3 memory card yet. However, don’t expect it to be cheap. TeamGroup’s 256 GB SDXC card in the T-Create Expert V90 range has a list price of $199 and the new card has 8x the capacity of that model. While it is unlikely that the 2 TB will be as much as $1,600, it could easily top $1,000.
