Sony Japan has announced that it will be raising the price of several of its Cinema Line cameras from September 1. The models impacted include the FX3 and FX6.
What has Sony announced?
Sony Japan released an official statement on the price rises. The statement said, “We would like to express our sincere gratitude for your continued support of Sony products. Sony Marketing Corporation will be revising the manufacturer’s ex-works prices for certain products sold in Japan with effect from 1 September 2026. In light of the recent surge in raw material, manufacturing, and logistics costs due to external factors, we will be revising the ex-works prices as detailed below. We will also be revising the manufacturer’s recommended retail prices.”
Which models are affected?
Sony has published revised prices for four of its Cinema Line cameras. The FX3A will go from 581,900 yen to 693,000 yen. That’s an increase of over 19%. The FX6 is also going from 935,000 yen to 1,045,000 yen for the body only, up nearly 12%. However, the FX6VK bundle is increasing by over 15%, from 1,089,000 yen to 1,215,000 yen. This includes the Sony FE 24-105mm f/4 G OSS zoom lens. In addition, the FX30 is going to cost 6% more (374,000 yen, up from 352,000 yen) with the handle and 7% more for the body only model (319,000 yen, up from 297,000 yen). Sony’s FR7 full-frame Cinema Line PTZ camera is also facing a price rise of 13% for the body only and 14% for the bundle with a lens.
Which regions are affected?
At the time of writing, price rises have only been announced by Sony Japan. The company has also advised customers that orders placed by August 31 will beat the price rises. However, it’s likely that Sony products around the world will be subject to similar increases before too long.

The growth in AI and the associated demand for resources has pushed up prices for consumers buying RAM or a GPU for their computers for some time. However, camera manufacturers are being affected as well and having to pass on their cost increases. Blackmagic Design has already been pushed into some pretty hefty price rises over the past couple of months. Now Sony has been forced to raise its recommended retail prices too. Consumers in Japan have a couple of weeks to beat the increases if they place an order now. If you are considering buying a new Sony Cinema Line camera elsewhere in the world, you might not want to wait too long either.
