SIGMA has announced its new 20mm full-frame premium compact prime lens for mirrorless camera systems. The SIGMA 20mm f2 DG DN Contemporary prime lens is the fourth SIGMA I series lens with an f2 aperture. The other lenses cover the focal lengths 24 mm, 35 mm and 65 mm. The I series lenses are available for Leica L-Mount and Sony E-mount cameras.
The SIGMA 20mm f2 DG DN | Contemporary has a small form factor, weighing just over 13 ounces and measuring 2.85 inches in length. Despite its lightweight, the SIGMA 20mm Contemporary lens has an all-metal design. The lens mount also incorporates rubber sealing to protect the camera from dust and water. As such, it’s a great lens that is portable enough for everyday shooting. It’s also ideal for landscapes, wide-angle portraits, weddings and interiors.
Low dispersion glass
The SIGMA 20mm Contemporary lens includes three high-precision glass-molded aspherical lens elements and one special low dispersion glass element. There is also one FLD element to suppress a range of optical aberrations. FLD glass is the highest level low dispersion glass available with extremely high light transmission.
SIGMA states that the lens has the highest level of optical performance from the center of the image to the edges even when wide open at f2. The lens also has Super Multi-Layer Coating and Nano Porous Coating. This ensures minimal flare and ghosting even when shooting into bright light sources.
The SIGMA 20mm Contemporary lens has a nine-bladed diaphragm, which should give a pleasing round bokeh. It also features a manual aperture ring with a de-click function for removing clicks by the aperture ring click switch. This means you can smoothly and silently change exposure while shooting video.
Magnetic lens cap
The SIGMA 20mm Contemporary lens has a minimum focus distance of 8.7 inches. The filter size of the lens is 62 mm and it comes with an I series magnetic lens cap.
