Sandmarc has launched a new lens add-on for iPhones. The Sandmarc Macro 100mm lens is designed to give close-up images with a shallow depth of field.

You might be wondering why you need an extra lens for your iPhone, as the native lens can already produce great macro shots. However, the Sandmarc 100m Macro lens also gives you a great shallow depth of field. In addition, the company says that the lens counteracts the artificial sharpening found in newer iPhone models, resulting in a more authentic, organic appearance.
Design
The Sandmarc 100mm Macro lens has an industrial aluminum body. This keeps the weight down to under 0.9 ounces (25.4 g). The lens is also small, measuring under 1.5 inches (38 mm) in diameter and 0.6 inches (15 mm) in height. This all means that your iPhone shouldn’t be awkward to use with the lens attached.
Optical construction
The Sandmarc 100mm Macro lens has a magnification factor of 10x. The company also says that you can take macro photos up to 30x. However, you will need to use a third-party app to use the 100mm Macro lens on the iPhone’s 3x camera. Sandmarc recommends the ProCamera app. The company hasn’t released exact details of the optical construction but says it’s a multi-element design. In addition, the lens has a multi-coating, presumably to reduce internal reflections.

The Sandmarc 100mm Macro lens has a clip-on mount so you can attach it to your iPhone. It also comes with front and rear lens caps and a lens pouch for storage.

The quality of the cameras and lenses Apple chooses has always been a major selling point of the iPhone series. As such, you might question adding an additional accessory to your smartphone, such as the Sandmarc 100mm Macro lens. However, the sample images shared by Sandmarc do look impressive, and the shallow depth makes for striking macro shots. As lenses go, the 100mm Macro isn’t particularly expensive. It’s also small enough to carry with you to capture great macro shots on the go. If your content creation includes a lot of macro work, it could be worth taking a closer look at the Sandmarc 100mm Macro lens.
