RØDE announces RØDECaster Video S all in one production solution for content creators

RØDE has announced a new all-in-one video and audio production solution for solo creators, video podcasters and livestreamers. The RØDE RØDECaster Video S delivers video switching, recording and streaming functionality together with a professional audio mixer.

Design

The RØDECaster Video S is a more compact version of RØDE’s popular RØDECaster Video production console. You can switch between up to four video sources and five customizable scenes using dedicated buttons. There are also four function buttons so you can quickly and easily access media playback, graphic overlays, multi-source layouts, and chroma keying.

It features a two-inch touchscreen and a rotary encoder for quick configuration and setting adjustment. With the Inspect button, you can preview and configure any input or scene on the fly as well.

Video inputs and outputs

The RØDECaster Video S has three full HD 1080p HDMI inputs with auto frame rate conversion. There is also one configurable HDMI output for viewing the program, preview, and multi-view feeds.  You can also add a fourth video input via USB-C.  In addition, the RØDECaster Video S supports network cameras, including PTZ operation, via up to four NDI inputs along with output via Ethernet. You can access Dual Cam streaming with the free RØDE Capture app for iOS devices as well.

Video processing

Using the RØDECaster Video S, you can seamlessly switch between cameras, consoles, and other visual inputs. You choose between straight cuts, fades, dips, and wipes, and can fully customize the transitions. There’s also the option to view a live preview of each feed before you make the switch.

Also, you can design and save up to five instantly switchable scenes. These can combine video sources, graphics, and other media into dynamic layouts. The RØDECaster Video S can automatically change camera angles based on who is speaking as well, ideal for solo operators.

Audio inputs and outputs

The RØDECaster Video S features two studio-grade Neutrik combo jacks with ultra-low-noise, high-gain Revolution Preamps. You can use these for capturing audio from XLR microphones, instruments, and more. There are also dual internal wireless receivers for connecting RØDE Series IV wireless microphones. Plus, you can connect a RØDE USB audio device via USB-C. For monitoring, the RØDECaster Video S has two headphone outputs.

Audio processing

This unit can mix, process, and route up to nine audio sources simultaneously. Additionally, each channel can also utilize the device’s full suite of studio-grade effects and processors powered by APHEX. These include EQ, compressor, noise gate, and de-esser. You also get the legendary Aural Exciter, Big Bottom, and Compellor effects.

Streaming

With the RØDECaster Video S, you can stream directly to all major platforms via Wi-Fi or Ethernet. Alternatively, you can connect the device via USB-C to use your preferred streaming software. In addition, you can record directly to an external USB storage device. This includes the option for isolated (ISO) recording, so you have maximum flexibility to edit your content in post-production.

What we think

The RØDE RØDECaster Video S is a powerful video and audio production device. It delivers a lot of the functionality of the RØDECaster Video with a smaller footprint and for less than half the price. You also get a comprehensive range of video and audio inputs, as well as all the processing features you need.

The auto camera switching makes it easy for solo operators to create great content. If you want to boost the production value of your content without breaking the bank, the RØDECaster Video S might be the solution you are looking for.
