OM Digital Solutions launches OM-1 mirrorless camera

OM Digital Solutions has announced its new camera, the OM System OM-1. OM Digital Solutions was set up as a company after Japanese Industrial Partners Inc purchased Olympus’ imaging division at the beginning of 2021.

Four Thirds sensor

The OM-1 is OM Digital Solutions’ flagship camera in the OM system range. The camera has a 20-megapixel stacked CMOS Four Thirds sensor. The company claim that the sensor uses a revolutionary new way of arranging imaging elements to let more light in a while, boosting low light performance. In addition, the OM-1 has a standard ISO range up to 25,600, which you can increase to 102,400 if needed.

OM Digital claims the OM-1 features the most advanced in-body image stabilization system in the world. Its 5-axis sensor-shift image stabilization offers up to 8 stops of compensation to eliminate camera shake — even at slow shutter speeds.

Dual Quad Core processor

The OM-1 incorporates OM Digital Solution’s TruePic X Dual Quad Core image processing chip. The company states that this delivers fast start up and writing speeds. It also provides accurate autofocusing and fast sequential shooting. The OM-1 can shoot up to 50 frames per second with continuous autofocus. In addition, in single autofocus mode, the camera can reach a staggering 120fps.

4K Video

With the OM-1, you can record 4K video internally in 10-bit 4:2:0 at up to 60p. You can also shoot in full HD at up to 240P for super slow motion. The camera offers high bitrate recording in both H.264 and H.265. The OM-1 allows you to shoot in OM-Log to maximize the dynamic range of your footage. You can also output 10-bit 4:2:2 RAW video to external recorders, including the Atomos Ninja V and Atomos Ninja V+. As well as Standard Dynamic Range footage, the OM-1 can shoot video in Hybrid Gamma Log mode, enhancing brightness, sharpness and color.

Zebra pattern

The OM-1 offers zebra patterning to help set exposure correctly for video. You can also set the camera’s aperture, shutter speed, ISO and white balance individually for more creative control. The OM-1 has a built-in stereo microphone and mono speaker. For better quality audio, you can use an external stereo microphone.

OLED viewfinder

The OM-1 has an eye-level OLED electronic viewfinder with a resolution of approximately 5.76 million dots. There is also a 3.0-inch vari-angle touch panel monitor with around 1.62 million dots. There is also the option to use an in-camera Look Up Table (LUT). This means you can see an image on location that’s close to the final image you will get after color grading.

Pricing and availability

The OM-1 will begin shipping in March 2022. The camera is available as a body-only option for $2199. It is also available with a 12-40mm PRO II lens kit for $2799. OM Digital Solutions are running a launch promotion that gets you a free battery and a three-year extended warranty in addition to your one-year manufacturer’s warranty. This offer is valid from 2/15/22 until 3/3/22.
