Meet the first production light that is also an office desk lamp

Tiffen boldly claims that their new Lowel EGO LED is the first production light that is attractive enough to double as a desk lamp. The 17” square panel light has a stylish curved design. The body is 3 ½” deep in the middle but tapers to a point on each side.

Unlike previous models, the Lowel EGO LED needs no assembly. It’s ready straight out of the box. The base of the light has feet, so you can set it up free-standing on a tabletop. The EOG LED can also mount onto any 1/4-20 or 3/8 compatible light stand.

The Lowel EGO LED is a bi-color light with a range from 2700K to 6300K. Flicker-free dimming allows you to adjust the brightness between 10%-100%. However, the control dials don’t have any markings, so you can’t set a specific temperature or percentage. At 1 meter, the maximum output is 774 lux when set to daylight and 665 lux for tungsten. TLCI is good at 95.

The back panel of the Lowel EGO LED’s fixture is black so that all the output comes through its front diffusion. In practice, the Lowell EGO LED works like a small all-in-one book light. As a result, it emits a very soft, even light. This makes it ideal for photographers and videographers doing portraiture work. It’s equally suitable for still life use, such as product or food shoots.

Social media and video conferencing

Tiffen is marketing the Lowel EGO LED for social media content creators, as well as streams and video conferencing. The light can be simply set onto a desk at one side of a phone or laptop and adjusted to complement the ambient lighting and subject’s skin tone. As an LED fixture, the light has low heat emissions, so the subject stays cool.

Pricing and availability

The Lowel EGO LED retails for $199 and is available now.
