Lenovo Legion BoostStation eGPU takes home Best computer peripheral of CES 2020

Congrats to Lenovo and the Legion BoostStation eGPU for winning our award for Best computer peripheral of CES 2020. This external GPU enclosure allows users to add a dedicated graphics card to any desktop computer or laptop with Thunderbolt 3 connectivity.

Legion BoostStation overview

The Legion BoostStation is designed to add processing power to slim form-factor computers that don’t have a dedicated GPU built-in, specifically the newly released Lenovo Y740S. The enclosure supports both Nvidia GeForce and AMD Radeon graphics cards. It will fit cards up to 12.6 inches long, meaning most standard-length, dual-slot cards should fit. Still, it’s always best to check that it will work with your desired card before buying. It will also accommodate a single 2.5 or 3.5 inch storage drive or two slim SSDs.

How does the BoostStation connect?

The most important connection on the BoostStation is its Thunderbolt port that connects it with your computer. Beyond that, the BoostStation also sports two USB 3.1 ports and a USB 2.0 port along with HDMI and ethernet connectivity.

Designed to stay cool

An aluminum housing along with cooling mesh front and side panels are designed to keep temperatures inside the BoostStation under control. The 14 x 6.8 x 8.3-inch enclosure also boasts a tool-less design for easy servicing. The BoostStation weighs in at a hefty 18.7 pounds.

Pricing and availability

The Lenovo Legion BoostStation is priced at $250 for the enclosure only. At that price, users will need to buy a GPU separately. The BoostStation is expected to be available this May.
