Insta360 announces the X4 Air ultralight 8K 360 camera

Insta360 has announced the latest model in its X Series of 360 cameras. The Insta360 X4 Air is the company’s lightest-ever 8K 360 video and is available in Graphite Black and Arctic White color options.

Lightest-ever

Insta360 says that the X4 Air 360 camera takes everything content creators loved about its X4 model and makes it lighter, smarter and more intuitive. The X4 Air weighs just 5.8 ounces (165 g), making it Insta360’s lightest-ever 8K 360 camera. However, it also features larger 1/1.8-inch sensors with a 134% increase in pixel area per frame compared to the X4. This delivers better detail and more vivid color straight out of the camera.

Video modes

The Insta360 X4 Air can record 360 videos up to 30 frames per second (fps) in 8K resolution or 50 fps in 6K and 4K. An innovative Active HDR mode boosts colors in the highlights and shadows to capture details that other action cameras miss. AdaptiveTone also automatically balances light, color and contrast from each lens for clear, natural‑looking videos. In addition, you can shoot 4K 60 fps first-person videos with an ultra-wide 170° field of view using the front or back lens. Even better, in InstaFrame mode, you can record a flat video in Selfie or Fixed View and a full 360 video at the same time.

Durable design

The dual fisheye lenses on the Insta360 X4 Air feature an ultra-hard optical coating that doubles drop resistance compared to X4. However, the lenses are also user-replaceable in case the worst happens. In addition, the Insta360 X4 Air is waterproof to 49 feet (15 meters) without the need for a housing. If you want to go deeper, the optional Invisible Dive Case protects the camera down to 197 feet (60m).

The X4 Air features Insta360’s FlowState Stabilization and 360° Horizon Lock for perfect, stable video every time. It also offers Twist to Shoot, Gesture Control and Voice Control, making it quick and simple to operate the camera intuitively. The microphone on the X4 Air has a built-in wind guard that silences wind noise for crisp, clear audio. In addition, the camera’s upgraded wind noise reduction algorithm produces quality audio, even at high speeds or in windy conditions. The improved voice enhancement reduces background noise and enhances voices without the need for an external mic as well. The X4 Air has a 2010mAh battery that will last for up to 88 minutes of continuous recording in 8K30fps
