HoverAir teases Aqua drone as the world’s first water-born flying camera

HoverAir has shared the first images of its unique new drone. The HoverAir Aqua drone is designed to take off and land directly on the water.

Amphibious experience

The videos that HoverAir has posted online of the new Aqua drone are quite unique. A paddleboarder literally throws the drone onto the sea, where it lands with a splash before taking to the air. After flying across the open water, the bright orange Aqua then lands gently between the waves. The drone is also shown following someone in a canoe and on a hydrofoil board.

Also, another video shows a large orange remote control device with a start/stop button on someone’s arm.

Waterproof design

As with its X1 and X1 Pro drone, HoverAir describes the Aqua as a self-flying camera. That’s because the company’s drones are designed for you to be able to capture aerial selfies without needing to worrying about controlling the device.

The Aqua is obviously 100% waterproof, however it also features more than 15 waterproofing adaptions. Its construction include magnesium and titanium alloys, as well as a nano coating and an anti-corrosive design. Additionally, the Aqua has a self-heating feature.

Camera features

HoverAir says that the Aqua has a flagship-level 1/1.3-inch CMOS sensor camera that can capture 4K video at up to 100 frames per second (fps). It also offers level 7 wind resistance up to 33 knots and a top flight speed of over 34 miles per hour (55 km/h).

In addition, the Aqua weighs less than 249g so you won’t need to register the drone in most parts of the world. HoverAir says that more details of the Aqua’s features will be made available at the official launch.

What we think

HoverAir’s drones aren’t like other drones. The company described its X1 model as a “pocket-sized flying camera.” You can think of it as a flying selfie camera, designed to follow you and capture great aerial footage automatically. The Aqua takes this to the next level and is perfect for anyone who is into sports such as surfing, canoeing, paddle boarding, and more. Its waterproof design means that you can get stunning shots that you wouldn’t risk with other autonomous drones. We will bring you more details of the HoverAir Aqua as soon as the company releases them.

Pricing and availability

HoverAir hasn’t released the launch date for the Aqua yet, but you can sign up for notifications at the company’s website.
