Hollyland Cosmo C2 supports multicamera wireless transmission

The Hollyland Cosmo C2 is Hollyland’s latest wireless video transmission system. Designed for multicamera livestreaming and electronic field production, the Cosmo C2 supports two transmitters with only one receiver.

The standout feature of the Hollyland Cosmo C2 is that it only needs one receiver (RX) unit to capture the signals from two transmitter (TX) units. This reduces the amount of cabling and space needed compared to a traditional one-receiver-per-transmitter setup.

It also addresses synchronization delays between the camera feeds when using separate systems.

Transmission range

The Hollyland Cosmo C2 offers an impressive line-of-sight wireless transmission range of 3,000 feet (1000 meters). And, it features a super-low latency of just 33 ms. Hollyland says that this surpasses the 60 ms benchmark that can cause noticeable screen misalignment during live events with LED displays.

HEVO 2.0

Hollyland’s Cosmo C2 uses Hollyland’s proprietary HEVO 2.0 technology. This automatically detects surrounding frequency interference and seamlessly switches to a clean channel to ensure uninterrupted transmission.

Hollyland says that it offers latency up to 18% faster and 186% greater range than HEVO 1.0.

Transmitter

As for the transmitters, the Hollyland Cosmo C2 transmitters feature both HDMI and 3G-SDI inputs for compatibility with a wide range of cameras. You also get a 3G-SDI Loop Out for a monitor if you need it, as well as a USB-C port and a locking DC power-in socket. Alternatively, you can power the transmitters via their built-in NP-F battery plates.

Receiver

The Hollyland Cosmo C2 receiver features a separate HDMI and 3G-SDI output for each transmitter unit. There’s also a USB-C port that supports UVC (USB video class) streaming. This means that you can connect the receiver to your computer via a USB cable without the need for a capture card. Also, the receiver can be powered via a locking DC power-in socket or the built-in V-mount battery plate.

NDI

Also, the Hollyland Cosmo C2 receiver features an RJ-45 port that supports the Network Device Interface (NDI) protocol. This means that you can transmit the video streams over a single network cable. In addition, the receiver offers RTMP capability for direct cloud streaming. This eliminates the need for an external device for real-time transmissions.

Other features

The Hollyland Cosmo C2 can transmit HDMI and SDI fractional frame rate inputs and outputs. The receiver features a brand-new frame rate compensation algorithm. This means that it can convert low frame rate inputs such as 24p, 25p or 30p to a high frame rate output at 60p for smoother visuals. If the signal is ever lost, the receiver is also designed to retain the last frame received. This prevents the awkward display of manufacturer logos during commercial livestreaming.

What we think

Overall, the Hollyland Cosmo C2 is an ideal solution for two camera livestreams or broadcast use. It will also be useful for remote monitoring on a multicamera movie shoot. Having a single receiver unit makes for a much simpler and neater solution, however you use it.

Additionally, the new HEVO 2.0 technology helps to ensure that your video feeds won’t suffer dropouts or interference. If you regularly use a wireless video setup with more than a single camera, the Hollyland Cosmo C2 could be just what you need.

Pricing and availability

The Hollyland Cosmo C2 costs $1,299 for a 2TX /1RX solution. You can also buy a system with a single transmitter and receiver for $999. If you want to add a separate transmitter, that is $399.
