Hasselblad has launched its new flagship medium format camera. The 100-megapixel Hasselblad X2D II 100C offers AF-C continuous autofocus and industry-leading 10-stop in-body image stabilization.
Medium format sensor
The Hasselblad X2D II 100C features a 100-megapixel medium format BSI CMOS sensor. This supports 16-bit color depth, delivering around 281 trillion colors for uncompromising image quality. The sensor also offers up to 15.3 stops of dynamic range at the native sensitivity of ISO 50.
Also, the X2D II 100C has a five-axis, 10-stop in-body image stabilization system. This gives you up to eight times the stability of the previous X2D 100C model when capturing distant subjects
High dynamic range
The Hasselblad X2D II 100C features Hasselblad Natural Color Solution with High Dynamic Range (HNCS HDR). As a result, Hasselblad says that the X2D II 100C is the first medium format camera to support true end-to-end HDR. HNCS HDR harnesses high dynamic range to elevate Hasselblad’s signature natural colors to new levels of brilliance. Even in harsh lighting, it effectively reduces overexposure, enhances highlight retention and reveals greater tonal depth.

Continuous autofocus
For the first time on a Hasselblad camera, the X2D II 100C features AF-C continuous autofocus. This is powered by deep learning algorithms to accurately detect and track moving subjects. The camera’s Phase Detection Autofocus (PDAF) coverage has also been expanded from 294 to 425 zones. This works together with LiDAR-assisted focusing to ensure fast and accurate results. In addition, a new AF illuminator further improves autofocus performance in low-light conditions and serves as a self-timer indicator as well.
Other features
The Hasselblad X2D II 100C sports a new tiltable 3.6-inch OLED touch screen that delivers up to 1400-nit peak brightness. This is 75 percent brighter than the X2D 100C and delivers vivid, true-to-life clarity. You can also instantly review the camera’s HDR images on the screen. HDR images are processed in-camera as HDR HEIF or Ultra HDR JPEG. The X2D II 100C features a 1 TB internal SSD storage as well as a CFexpress Type B slot for additional storage.
What we think
The Hasselblad X2D II 100C is a very impressive camera. Its 100-MP images contain a breathtaking amount of detail. The HDR images also capture the nuances of tonal depth and deliver stunning colors.
Sadly, the X2D II 110C doesn’t have anything to offer video shooters, being a strictly stills-only camera. This level of performance comes with a premium price tag as well. However, for a photographer who requires the highest quality still images, the Hasselblad X2D II 100C must be a dream camera to own.
Pricing and availability
The Hasselblad X2D II 100C medium format camera retails at $7,399 for the body only.
