DJI release Magnetic Protective Case accessory for Action 2

DJI has released a new Magnetic Protective Case for its Action 2 action camera. The case will prevent damage to the camera unit from impacts, scratches and abrasions. In addition, there is a case that is compatible with the front touchscreen module and power module.

Cooling function

DJI made the DJI Action 2 camera unit from a metal material to help cool the internal components. This means it will feel hot to the touch after long recording times. In addition, the DJI Action 2 camera unit will automatically stop recording when the unit reaches a set temperature threshold to protect the device. DJI has made the Magnetic Protective Case from a heat-resistant polymer. This means that the case helps to reduce the surface temperature of the camera. This will also increase recording times under normal conditions.

Increased recording times

DJI released a chart showing the new extended recording times for the Action 2 camera unit when fitted with the Magnetic Protective Case. The Auto-Stop Rec Temp was set to High for the tests. The testing was also conducted in a windless indoor environment at 77 degrees Fahrenheit (25 °C).

New firmware

DJI has released a firmware update (01.03.30.20) for the Action 2 camera unit. After installing the firmware update, the camera unit will automatically detect that you installed the Magnetic Protective Case. The camera unit will then display the message: “Magnetic Protective Case installed” on its touchscreen. The device will also activate a heat control solution that increases recording length under normal conditions.

Compatability

DJI has confirmed that the Magnetic Protective Case does not affect the use of expansion ports. In addition, you can still use accessories, including the magnetic lanyard, magnetic adapter mount, and magnetic ball-joint adapter mount.

How to claim

The Magnetic Protective Case will be included with the purchase of DJI Action 2 from now on. In addition, the new case is available free of charge to anyone who has already bought the Action 2. You can find out how to claim your free case here.
