DJI launches new DL 75 mm F1.8 lens

DJI has launched a new lens for the Zenmuse X9-Air gimbal camera on the company’s DJI Inspire 3 cinema drone. The DJI DL 75mm F1.8 lens delivers the widest aperture and longest focal length of any DJI DL lens.

75 mm focal length

DJI’s new DL 75 mm full-frame medium telephoto lens is designed for 8K cinematography. It’s also natively compatible with the DJI DL mount on the Zenmuse X9-8K Air gimbal camera. Featuring the longest focal length in DJI’s DL mount lens lineup, the 75 mm focal length means you can capture images with a richer depth of field. In addition, you can shoot close-ups of scenes such as a high-speed car chase from a safe distance.

Optical design

The DJI DL 75mm lens is designed with ten lens elements in nine groups. These include three ED (extra-low dispersion) lens elements. In addition, the 75 mm lens features DJI’s UMC coating which minimizes internal reflections. As a result, the lens delivers higher contrast and clearer images. DJI says that this unique design also provides shots with high sharpness and low chromatic aberration.

Wide F1.8 aperture

The DJI DL 75mm lens has a wide F1.8 aperture. This means that the lens should deliver outstanding image performance even in night or low-light conditions. You will also get images with a shallower depth of field that blur the background to focus on your subject. In addition, the DL 75mm lens is ideal for use with the Inspire 3’s dual ISO with an EI of 800 and 4000. DJI says that this means you can capture high-quality urban night scenes from an aerial perspective.

The DJI DL 75mm lens is optimized for aerial cinematography. It features an integrated carbon fiber housing design which means that the lens weighs only 9.5 ounces (269 grams). This means it is ideally suited to the high mobility requirements of the Inspire 3 cinema drone. The 75 mm lens also comes with pitch axis and yaw axis counterweight blocks so that the drone’s gimbal will maintain flight balance.

What we think

With the introduction of the DL 75mm lens, DJI’s full-frame lens selection now spans ultra-wide, wide, standard and medium telephoto focal lengths. This makes the Zenmuse X9-8K Air gimbal camera ideal for a wide range of cinematographic needs. Drones tend to have wider angle lenses so adding a medium telephoto lens is an exciting prospect. If you use the Inspire 3 cinema drone, DJI’s new DL 75 mm lens will give a dramatic new perspective to your aerial video.

Pricing and availability

The DJI DL 75 mm F1.8 Lens costs $1,299 which includes the lens, lens protective glass and the lens counterweight ring. You also get the pitch axis counterweight block, yaw axis counterweight block, a storage box, screwdriver and screws.
