CES 2023: Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra has the largest sensor ever in a webcam

Razer launched a new webcam at CES 2023. The Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra claims to have the largest sensor ever in a webcam, so what does that mean in terms of performance?

Large sensor

The headline feature of the Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra webcam is its ultra-large 1/1.2 inch Sony Starvis 2 sensor. This is much larger than the 1/4-inch sensors found in many webcams. The Kiyo Pro Ultra’s sensor also has a pixel size of 2.9 μm and captures 3.9 times as much light compared to other webcams. As such, your video should have great color and detail.

4K video

The Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra webcam captures 4K (3840 by 2160 pixel) resolution video at 30 fps and 1080p video at 60 fps. It also has a cutting-edge processor which can convert this raw footage into 4K video at 24 fps, 1440p video at 30 fps or 1080p 60 fps video for your livestream. In addition, the Kiyo Pro Ultra has a built-in omnidirectional microphone.

Large aperture

Razer’s Kiyo Pro Ultra webcam has a custom lens with a large f1.7 aperture. This will let in a lot of light so you can capture high-quality video even in low light conditions. In addition, the large sensor and large aperture can blur the background. This is a true optical bokeh effect and not a software blur, as with other webcams.

AI features

The Kiyo Pro Ultra webcam also has advanced imaging features such as AI-powered face tracking autofocus and auto exposure. This will ensure that you are in sharp focus and perfectly exposed as you move around.

High dynamic range

The Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra webcam includes high dynamic range (HDR) technology. This will add more visual detail and texture at 30 fps, making colors pop even for the darkest and lightest tones. The HDR features also automatically refine the webcam’s lighting and contrast while correcting over and underexposed areas.

Razer Synapse app

You can customize your Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra webcam video using the Razer Synapse app for PC. Using the app, you can adjust zoom, pan, tilt, ISO shutter speed, and more. This means you can tweak and fine-tune your video to your needs. In addition, the Kiyo Pro Ultra has built-in memory, so you can reuse your configuration, even if you swap to a different computer.

What we think

The Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra webcam is a high-quality webcam. With its large sensor, the webcam is a great alternative to using a DSLR or mirrorless camera for your livestreams. It’s styled to look like a camera lens, so it looks good as well. In addition, if you are worried about privacy, the Kiyo Pro Ultra also has a built-in shutter to cover the lens. To close it, you simply twist the body of the webcam.

Pricing and availability

The Razer Kiyo Pro Ultra webcam is available now. It costs $300.
