CES 2023: Autel Robotics EVO Max 4T flies away with Best Drone award

Congratulations to Autel and the EVO Max 4T. This newly announced drone is taking home our award for Best Drone of CES 2023.

Getting to know the EVO Max 4T

The Autel EVO Max 4T is designed for safety and reliability with obstacle detection sensors on all sides along with anti-jam and ant-interference technology. The drone feature complete 720-degree obstacle avoidance thanks to its binocular vision systems and millimeter wave radar technology. Autel claims this allows the EVO Max 4T to track objects down to half an inch.

The EVO Max 4T boasts a quick 15-second takeoff sequence and takeoff and landing can withstand wind speeds up to 27 miles per hour. Additionally, its IP43 weather rating means it can stay in the air even in less-than-ideal weather conditions.

The rugged drone also offers an impressive 42-minute maximum flight time and a 12.4-mile transmission range with a 23,000-foot service ceiling. Plus, it supports navigation even in areas where GPS is not available.

When not in the air, the EVO Max 4T folds down for easy transport.

Autonomous navigation

Targeting public safety, 3D scene reconstruction, industrial inspection and land surveying, the EVO Max 4T features Autel’s Autonomy Engine. By collecting data about the surrounding environment, the EVO Max 4T is able to plan 3D flight paths in real time. This feature works even when flying in complex environments like in forests and around building.

In addition, the new drone also features AI recognition technology that can identify and track specific targets. Autel points out that this feature is especially useful in law enforcement applications. Another boon to public safety applications is the drone’s anti-jam and anti-interference flight control modules and algorithms. These are designed to counter RFI, EMI and GPS spoofing.

Autel SkyLink 3.0 system

The drone is controlled through the Autel SkyLink 3.0 system, which features six antennas, four frequency bands, encryption and optional 4G connectivity. The system offers less than 150ms latency and real-time 1080p60 video transmission. The EVO Max 4T also offers a range of intelligent functions, including 3D flight routes, PinPoint Mode, Team Work, Polygon Mission, Waypoint Mission and Oblique Photography.

Drone-to-drone collaboration

The Autel EVO Max 4T also introduces the new A-Mesh system. This technology allows autonomous drone-to-drone communication and collaboration. Because the system is mesh- rather than chain-based, the drone system can independently recover is one drone in the system fails. All drones in the A-Mesh system can be controlled by a single pilot or a group of pilots.

What about the camera?

The EVO Max 4T features a highly flexible imaging system with a 4K 50-megapixel wide-angle camera, a 48 MP zoom camera, a thermal camera and a laser range finder. The wide-angle camera provides an 85-degree field of view with the equivalent of a 23mm lens. The zoom camera offers 8K 10x optical zoom with 160x maximum hybrid zoom. It has an aperture range of f/2.8 to f/4.8.
