Congratulations Audio-Technica. The Audio-Technica M50xSTS headset is our pick for the Best Headset of CES 2023.
The M50xSTS and the co-released M50xSTS-USB are part of Audio-Technica’s new line of StreamSet streaming headsets. The line targets content creators and livestreamers who need both clear communication and high-quality audio capture. Audio-Technica claims these new releases are the world’s first headsets specifically designed for streamers.
What makes the ATH-M50xSTS special?
Streamers have long resorted to using separate microphone and headphone solutions to ensure they are capturing the best possible audio for their streams. The M50xSTS seeks to resolve this pain point with an all-in-one solution.
The headset features the same 45 mm large-aperture drivers found in Audio-Technica’s popular M50x headphones. In addition, the headset feature technology from the brand’s 20 series microphones with a cardioid condenser mic capsule. The mic is mounted to a flexible boom arm that can be flipped up to mute the input.

For added comfort, the M50xSTS comes with two sets of earpads. The standard M50x earpads emphasize audio quality, while the more breathable mesh and leatherette option is suitable for long streaming sessions.
Connectivity
While the Audio-Technica M50xSTS and the M50xSTS-USB both offer professional-quality sound capture and reproduction, they differ in the available connection options. The standard M50xSTS comes with a six-foot, six-inch permanently attached cable featuring a 3.5 mm headphone input. It also features an XLR microphone output.

On the other hand, the M50xSTS-USB offers a USB-A connection at the end of its 6 6-foot 6-inch permanently attached cable. Also included is a USB-A to USB-C adapter. In addition to easy computer connectivity, the M50xSTS-USB includes an A/D converter and adjustable sidetone.
Pricing and availability
Both the Audio-Technica M50xSTS and M50xSTS-USB are available now. Our award winner, the ATH-M50xSTS is priced at just under $200. The ATH-M50xSTS-USB costs around $230. For more information, visit audio-technica.com.
