Canon mirrorless cameras, R5 and R6, receive update

Canon rolled out a new firmware update for the EOS R6 and R5. The Version 1.1.1 update offers a few new improvements to both Canon mirrorless cameras.

EOS R6 firmware 1.1.1

This update allows R6 users to set the camera’s overheat control on when choosing to display an image through the HDMI output. While doing this, you can also display an image on the camera’s screen. Temperature detection and shooting time limits when you shoot video has been improved as well. Additionally, the shooting time when the short-time and power-on/off are repeatedly performed at room temperature has been improved.

Overview

  • It’s now possible to set [Overheat control: On] when displaying an image through the HDMI output when displaying an image on the camera’s screen.
  • The total shooting time when performing short-time recording and power-on/off at room temperature has been improved.
  • Temperature detection and shooting time limits when video shooting has been improved.
  • Image stabilization of 6.0 steps is possible when the RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM is attached. It’s used with the optical image stabilization mechanism of a compatible lens.
  • When attaching the RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM is attached to this Canon mirrorless camera, the S performance during continuous shooting may deteriorate with firmware Version 1.1.0. Canon has fixed this issue in this update.
  • The image stabilization has been improved while shooting movies using particular RF lenses.
  • The info display on the “Slow Synchro” setting screen, when set to English, has been fixed.
  • Canon improved the connectivity during FTP transfer.
  • The update fixes the phenomenon that the movie recording time is not displayed correctly if “Date/Time/Area” isn’t set.

EOS R5 firmware 1.1.1

The Canon mirrorless camera firmware 1.1.1 update targets the EOS R5 as well. Image stabilization of 6.0 is now possible with the RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM. Also IS performance during continuous shooting is possible with the RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM.

Overview

  • After attaching the RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM, image stabilization of 6.0 steps is possible when used with the optical image stabilization mechanism of a compatible lens.
  • If the RF100-500mm F4.5-7.1 L IS USM is attached, the IS performance during continuous shooting may deteriorate with firmware Version 1.1.0. This issue has been fixed.
