Atomos announces StudioSonic shotgun mic

Atomos has announced the new StudioSonic shotgun mic. It’s a compact microphone that you can use both wired and wirelessly. The StudioSonic is designed for filmmakers, journalists, YouTubers, and production professionals.

Wired and wireless

The headline feature of the Atomos StudioSonic shotgun mic is that you can use it as both a wired and a wireless microphone. It comes with an included 2.4GHz RX receiver with a USB-C locking connector so you can work wirelessly. Latency is less than 20 ms, and the working range is up to 328 feet (100 meters) with line of sight or up to 65 feet (20 meters) in busy environments. However, you can quickly switch to wired mode with a one-touch toggle. When working wired, you also have the option to use the included locking USB-C cable or 3.5mm analog TRS cable.

Broadcast-grade audio

Atomos says that the StudioSonic shotgun mic delivers broadcast-grade audio. It features a supercardioid condenser capsule with 48kHz/24-bit resolution. This audio pickup pattern should deliver focused, isolated vocal capture, ideal for use in noisy environments. The StudioSonic also includes a 75Hz low-cut filter and a 150Hz high-cut filter to minimize unwanted noise. In addition, the mic offers a high frequency boost to improve clarity and manual gain control for precise adjustments.

Other features

The Atomos StudioSonic shotgun mic is built with a shielded, all-metal body, so it is ready for the rigors of life on set. There’s also an integrated OLED screen, so you have a real-time visual display for gain levels, filter modes, battery status, and more. In addition, the StudioSonic features an internal, USB-C rechargeable battery. This will power the mic for around 7-8 hours in wireless mode and up to 50 hours in wired mode.

What we think

The Atomos StudioSonic is a versatile new shotgun mic. The option to switch between wired and wireless modes means you can adapt your microphone placement quickly and easily on set. It’s also great to see that Atomos included all the cables and accessories you need with the mic. In addition, the option for digital and analog recording means that you can connect the mic directly to your computer for livestreaming. If you are looking for a new shotgun mic, the Atomos StudioSonic ticks a lot of boxes.

Availability

The Atomos StudioSonic shotgun mic is available for pre-order now and is scheduled to ship from mid-July 2025. It will retail at $249. In the box, you get the microphone and wireless receiver along with the 3.5mm TRS cable and locking USB-C cable. In addition, the StudioSonic comes with a wind fur and foam shield, an adjustable pole mount, a quick-release mount, and a case.
