Apple announces the new iMac powered by the M4 chip

Apple has announced the latest update to its iMac all-in-one desktop computer. The new Apple iMac is powered by Apple’s M4 chip and Apple Intelligence in a new thin design.

Supercharged by M4

Apple’s M4 chip brings new levels of performance to the new iMac. The company claims that its M4 chip features the world’s fastest CPU core, making it up to 1.7 times faster than the iMac with M1. It also incorporates a powerful GPU with Apple’s most advanced graphics architecture. This delivers smooth gaming with up to two times higher frame rates than the iMac with M1. In addition, the new iMac comes with 16 GB of faster unified memory as standard which you can choose to configure up to 32 GB. The Neural Engine AI in M4 is now more than three times faster than on iMac with M1.

Performance boosts

The new iMac powered by M4 delivers big improvements for video makers and content creators. Video editing with Adobe Premiere Pro is up to 2.1 times faster when applying complex filters and effects compared to iMac with M1. Photo editing with Adobe Photoshop also gets the same performance boosts. Business software like Microsoft Excel is up to 1.7 times faster and web browsing with Safari is up to 1.5 times faster than iMac with M4. In addition, Apple says that the new iMac is up to 4.5 times faster than the most popular 24-inch all-in-one PC with the latest Intel Core 7 processor. It’s up to six times faster than the most popular Intel-based iMac model as well.

Apple Intelligence

Apple says that the launch of Apple Intelligence brings “personal intelligence to the personal computer.” The new AI technology combines powerful generative models with industry-first privacy protections. It also uses the power of Apple Silicon and the Neural Engine. Apple Intelligence delivers systemwide Writing Tools to help rewrite and proofread your text. In addition, the newly redesigned Siri means you can use spoken and typed requests to get the answers you need. Apple says that more new Apple Intelligence features will be available in December. The AI includes important privacy protections as well.

Design

Apple is releasing the new iMac with M4 in seven different colors. You can choose between green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue and silver. The new iMac also comes with a color-matched Magic Keyboard and Magic Mouse. Alternatively, you can opt for the Magic Trackpad. In addition, the new iMac features a 24-inch 4.5K Retina display with a nano-texture glass option that reduces reflections and glare. This means that you can use the new iMac in bright sunny locations without worrying about seeing the screen.

Other features

The new iMac has a 12 MP Centre Stage camera for your video calls. There’s also a studio-quality three-microphone array with beamforming and an immersive six-speaker sound system. For connectivity, you get four USB-C ports which all support Thunderbolt 4 for fast data transfers. In addition, the iMac supports both Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 and runs on macOS Sequoia. Apple has taken steps to reduce its environmental impact as well. The stand uses 100% recycled aluminum, and there’s 100% recycled gold plating, tin soldering and copper in the printed circuit boards.

What we think

Apple continues to deliver improvements in performance with each new release of its Apple Silicon. The new M4 chip will speed up all of your work but is especially suited for your video and photo editing. With all four USB-C ports supporting Thunderbolt, your external drives will be fast enough for high-resolution video editing. In addition, with its seven color schemes, the new iMac is a stylish addition to any home or office. If you are looking to upgrade to a new Apple computer, the iMac with M4 is a tempting prospect.
