In the run-up to the 2025 Sundance Film Festival, Adobe announced the new innovations coming to Premiere Pro, After Effects and Frame.io. The company said the new features are designed to empower filmmakers at all levels, including aspiring students, indie filmmakers, documentarians and industry veterans.
Premiere Pro
The latest updates to Premiere Pro will speed up your post-production workflows by identifying the content of your shots to help you find the footage you want faster. You can also now automatically caption your videos in up to 17 languages.
Media Intelligence and Search Panel
Using Premiere Pro’s new AI-powered Media Intelligence and the Search Panel, you can find the clips you need quickly and easily. Using AI, Media Intelligence will automatically recognize the content of your video clips. This includes details such as objects, locations, camera angles and metadata. Then, to find the content you need, you simply enter the clip type in the Search Panel. You can use descriptive search terms such as “person skating with a lens flare” or “close up of person running at sunset”.
Caption translation
Premiere Pro’s captioning tools are already very powerful. However, now Premiere Pro offers native caption translation in 17 languages. This means that you can roll out your videos to new audiences around the world without needing to wait for a manual translation. In addition, you can have multiple caption tracks visible in the edit, so you can see different languages at the same time.
After Effects
Adobe has updated After Effects with some of the most highly requested performance improvements.
Improved caching
Adobe has improved the caching within After Effects so that you can play back your compositions faster than ever before. The new faster, more modern caching system uses both your computer’s RAM and high performance attached hard disks. This also means that you aren’t limited by your computer’s RAM when playing back larger, or more complex, compositions. In addition, you can play back your entire composition the moment After Effects has cached it.
Improved HDR support
Adobe has added HDR monitoring to After Effects, so you can now work more effectively with high dynamic range video. The program supports PQ and HLG video with improved video scopes that support HDR so you can view your compositions accurately. As a result, you can deliver more vivid motion design work in HDR, whether you are working on a laptop or with a calibrated reference monitor.
Frame.io support for Canon cameras
Adobe has worked with Canon to integrate Frame.io with Canon’s C80 and C400 cameras. You can now automatically upload proxy files from the cameras to Frame.io. All you need is a Frame.io account, a network connection, a simple six-digit pairing code. Uploading proxies to Frame.io means that editors and clients can access your footage as soon as it’s been captured. In addition, Premiere Pro supports RAW video from the C80 and C400, so you can easily relink the original footage before delivering your edit.
What we think
Nearly 85% of the films at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival used Adobe Creative Cloud products. It’s therefore clear to see why Adobe wanted to announce the new features in Premiere Pro, After Effects, and Frame.io to coincide with the festival. The Media Intelligence and Search Panel updates to Premiere Pro mean you won’t have to manually catalog and search through all your shots. In addition, the caption translation will improve global accessibility for many filmmakers who couldn’t afford translation services previously. Any one working with After Effects will also welcome the improved caching and HDR support. However, it’s worth noting that beta versions of programs may be less stable than full releases. You should therefore be cautious about using them on important or time sensitive projects.
Pricing and availability
The updated versions of Premiere Pro and After Effects are available now as beta releases. To use the Canon C80 and C400 with Frame.io, you will need the firmware update that was released in December 2024.
