Western Digitial says that with that My Book Duo they have developed their largest capacity external desktop storage system ever, allowing both professionals and hobbyists to store gigantic amounts of photos, videos, music and documents.
So, the main question is obviously how big is it?
The My Book Duo is available in six capacities: 4TB, 6TB, 8TB, 12TB, 16TB, and 20TB. It seems like Western Digital went all out when packing these systems with capacity.
Why? WD wanted to make a reliable and simple-to-use storage system that would allow users to store massive amounts of data all into one place. “As a creative professional, I constantly have several photo and video projects in the works. With the way files sizes are increasing and demand for higher-quality content is growing, I need a reliable, massive storage system that I can quickly and easily access while managing my business,” said Trevor Traynor, Director, Photographer, and Producer.
“Both at home and in the office, people are creating and amassing huge volumes of data, and need high capacity, high speed solutions to easily and confidently move and store that data in a single location,” said Sven Rathjen, vice president of product marketing, Client Solutions, Western Digital. “We see it within new content creation segments such as the drone market and with enthusiasts, as well as professionals, producing and editing massive, high-quality photo and video files. There has never been more of a need for a simple-to-use, massive capacity desktop storage solution such as My Book Duo for these content creators to keep pace with their growing storage demands.”
Aside from providing a large amount of storage, the My Book Duo also is suppose to be pretty fast. Western Digital says that the product comes with RAID-optimized WD Red hard drives that can deliver speeds of up to 360 MB/s sequential reads.
To Western Digital, the speed that a system can go is just as important as the amount of data it can store.
Western Digital also said the system has password protection and hardware encryption with WD security software to try to ensure privacy and keep your data secure.
FIlm teams dealing with lots of footage could possibly use the My Book Duo to store there data on-site or even as back-up storage solution for archiving projects. It looks like a product that could provide a good safety net against data being lost or corrupted elsewhere.
The My Book Duo is price from at $259 (4TB), $289 (6TB), $329 (8TB), $419 (12TB), $599 (16TB), and $799 (20TB). If you want to know more about the My Book Duo, visit wd.com.
