Whether you're a professional video producer with all the latest video production gear, or you own the simplest electronic gadget or camcorder, there's a good chance that many of your products made their debut at the consumer electronics tradeshow, known as CES.
Rolling out the first or second week of every new year in Las Vegas with record breaking numbers of people in attendance, CES first took place in 1967 and has grown to become the largest consumer technology tradeshow in the world and Videomaker has been covering the event since 1986… which translates to EVERY YEAR since Videomaker has been in publication!
Last year's CES counted 153,000 attendees all grappling for a view of the goods and 3,100 exhibitors, with about half of those vying for Videomaker attention. This year's attendee list includes 5000 registered journalists and product company representatives from 150 countries showing off more than 20-thousand products. The hardest thing for us is to keep our focus on the gear that matters most to us.
For Videomaker readers, most of the products we cover at CES fall into the video production category or products that help support video production like editing systems, tablets and software. Of course, one of the biggest take-aways at this show every year is the collection of new camcorder releases – everyone who is anyone in the camcorder world displays their wares in Las Vegas.

We plan to report daily on the show, and provide you with up-to-the-minute reports following some of our meetings with products reps through Videomaker's Twitter feed, so watch for the news as we send it. We're looking for the video production products we deem "best of show" for Videomaker's annual CES Awards and we'll be taking our gear along, to capture the essence of the show and shoot back some First Look footage from the show floor.
[image:blog_post:29835]Although it's a consumer electronics show, CES isn't open to consumers; only product representatives, retail buyers and lucky media types like us are allowed inside, so we'll be the eyes and ears of our readers as we hope to bring you the latest news of gear to watch for in 2013.
