CyberLink Announces DVD-R Dual Layer Support

Reprinted from a CyberLink press release:

CyberLink Corp., a leading developer in providing integrated solutions for the Digital Home, announced today that its burning application, CyberLink Power2Go, and DVD authoring software, CyberLink PowerProducer, both support DVD-R Dual Layer recording DVD-R (DL). The latest DVD write-once support enables users to burn high quality video, TV recording, data, music, photos, etc. to Dual Layer discs that are capable of storing up to 8.5 GB of data as compared to 4.7 GB for single layer discs.

Mainly used for data burning, CyberLink Power2Go enables layer-jump recording, which alternates between both layers during the burning process and allows for multi-session burning. The Dual Layer recording technology supported by CyberLink PowerProducer utilizes sequential recording, the optimal technique employed when burning video content for playback on CE (consumer electronics) devices.

“We are excited and proud to announce our support for DVD-R Dual Layer. For users who like to burn their home movies directly from DV camcorders or burn important data, the increased recording capacity of Dual Layer discs (8.5 GB) as compared to traditional 4.7 GB discs is a huge benefit,” said Alice H. Chang, CEO of CyberLink. “CyberLink Power2Go is the epitome of top-notch burning applications for ripping and burning MP3 files, adding menus to video and photo DVDs, personalizing Express icons with changeable skins, and creating mixed-media discs that may be played on consumer devices, while CyberLink PowerProducer is in a class itself in terms of DVD authoring and intelligent technologies that make producing Hollywood-style movies effortlessly prolific.”
