Gateway today announced the availability of two new Gateway-branded notebook PCs for the first time through Best Buy’s 622 retail stores nationwide.
As announced earlier this month, the move is a key step in Gateway’s strategy to offer its PCs beyond its popular direct channels. Next month, Gateway will also offer new desktop PCs available through Best Buy.
“Back-to-school PC shopping just got better and easier thanks to Gateway’s new thin-and-light notebooks and Best Buy’s outstanding shopping experience,” said Ed Fisher, Gateway’s senior vice president of product planning. “These new Gateway notebooks are perfect for on-the-go computer users, such as students heading off to college this fall.”
The new Gateway notebooks, the 4520GZ and 4525GZ, combine the best aspects of mobile computing — slim size, wireless connectivity, enhanced battery life and excellent performance — making them ideal for college students trekking across campus as well as road warriors traveling for business. Weighing only 5.5 pounds and measuring just over one-inch thin, the lightweight notebooks can be taken virtually anywhere to stay connected and productive. Plus, they boast a large 15-inch high resolution XGA TFT display, an ideal size for viewing office software, photos and video.
Staying connected wirelessly has never been easier, thanks to the notebooks’ integrated WiFi 802.11g for wireless connectivity at WiFi hot spots on college campuses, restaurants, hotels, coffeehouses as well as to wireless networks in homes and businesses.
Equipped with Intel Mobile Centrino Technology and Intel Pentium M processors, these notebooks help computer users keep productivity high while computing wirelessly. Plus, a single charge of the six-cell Lithium Ion battery delivers up to 4.5 hours of battery life, so Gateway customers can stay connected during long classes and meetings. For those needing multiple connectivity options, the notebooks also come with integrated 10/100 Ethernet and a 56K v.92 modem.
In addition to staying connected, the Gateway 4520GZ and 4525GZ notebooks can help users make the most of their digital media devices while on the road. Connecting devices like digital cameras and MP3 players is a snap with the PCs’ one IEEE 1394 and four USB 2.0 ports. The notebooks make accessing, storing and sharing digital media easy, since each includes a large hard drive, DVD-ROM/CD-RW combo drive or a DVD+/- RW drive, and a 4-in-1 media card reader that accepts Multimedia Card, Secure Digital (SD), Memory Stick and Memory Stick Pro memory.
The new Gateway notebook PCs start at $1,399.99 and come standard with Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition. The systems are supported by Gateway’s standard limited warranty options. Additional service and support options are also available.
